Ryan Freitag (Jr, Osseo) and
Jack Schneider (Jr, Minneapolis, Minn) each tied school single season records, but it wasn't enough at the Blue Devils fell twice to UW-Stevens Point, by identical 4-3 scores Sunday at Nelson Field.
Freitag hit three home runs in the doubleheader to tie the single season school record of 15 home runs set by Brad O'Connell in 2000. Schneider hit a double to tie the school record, running his total to 16, joining Seth Maier, Mike Jaje and Jeff Kloes.
Freitag was 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the first game and 3-for-4 with two round trippers in the second game. Schneider tied the school record in doubles in the first game with his only hit of the day.
The Pointers' Kyle McHugh hit a solo home run in the second game, giving him four home runs on the weekend.
In the opener,
Andy Peterson (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) made his first collegiate start, going the distance, stirking out five and allowing five hits.
Adam Widder (Jr, Wauwatosa) came on in long relief, inheriting a 3-0 deficit with no outs inthe first inning and allowed one run, scattered six hits and two strikeouts in going nine innings.
Stout and Stevens Point both advance to the WIAC Tournament May 9-11 at UW-Whitewater.
