Archived VideoMENOMONIE (April 22, 2014) - UW-La Crosse talled 35 hits over two games and twice defefated UW-Stout, 17-10, 12-5, Tuesday at Nelson Field. The Eagles recorded 21 hits in the first game and 14 in the second.
The Eagles scored a run in the top of the first of the opener, and Stout's
Brady Burzynski (So, Eau Claire) hit his first home run of the season to tie the game. That would be as close as Stout would get in either game.
In a marathon fifth inning, La Crosse (14-13, 7-6 WIAC) scored six runs while Stout (17-12, 7-7 WIAC) cracked out four hits as the two teams combined to send 19 batters to the plate in that pitcher's nightmare inning.
La Crosse had Stout on the verge of the 10-run rule int eh eighth inning, leading 17-7, but Stout did battle back to extend the game with a three run eighth inning.
Stout was no slouch at the plate Tuesday, rolling out 13 hittins i tnhe first game and nine in the second.
In the nightcap, the Eagles took control with a four-run third inning and also put four runs up in the eighth inning.
The Eagles Cole Cefula was a combined 6-for-10 at the plate with 10 total RBI, six in the first game.
Burzynski was 2-for-5 in the first game with two RBI, and 3-for-5 in the second game with three RBI.
Stout will travel to UW-Whitewater, April 26-27.
