Stout splits final day with Oshkosh, drop 12 inning second game

MENOMONIE (April 18, 2014) - UW-Stout split the final doubleheader of the series with UW-Oshkosh, winning the first, 7-5, but dropping a frustrating 6-5, 12-inning decision in the nightcap. The Blue Devils took three of four games from the Titans in the series.

Zach Carlson pitched 10 innings for Stout (17-10, 7-5 WIAC), but was unable to figure into the decision. Stout lost a 4-2 lead in the 10th and a 5-4 lead in the 12th.  Stout finished the game with seven errors.

In the opener, Stout took advantage of six Oshkosh (12-12, 6-8 WIAC) errors to take a 7-5 decision.  The Blue Devils took the lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Kasey Kruse, then put up four runs in the third inning. Jke Lunow pushed down a bunt to score Charlie Pelzer before the Titans committed three errors, which led to Stout's next three runs.
 
Stout tallied a run in the top of the sixth when Brett Vavra, who had reached on an error, scored. The Titans put up a run in the bottom of the inning when Luke Gajewski recorded a sacrifice fly. The Titans pulled to within one run with a four—run seventh inning. Robbie Kleman hit a sacrifice fly, Jake Dostalek had a two-run home run and Gajewski hit an RBI double.
 
Stout recorded an insurance run in the top of the ninth when Brady  Burzynski singled, stole second, then scored on an infield error.

Stout will host UW-La Crosse, Tuesday, April 22 at 1 p.m.
