ROCHESTER, Minn. (March 7, 2014) -
Tori Workman (So, Prior Lake, Minn) struck out 18 total batters over two games as UW-Stout split a pair of 2-1 decisions Friday at the Luther Tournament at the Rochester Community Technical College (RCTC) Dome.
Workman struck out eight in a 2-1 loss to Loras College (3-3) in the opener. Workman struck out a career-best 10 and recorded the game-winning hit in a 2-1 decision to hand the University of Dubuque (5-1) their first loss of the season in the late game.
With two outs in the fourth inning and two runners on base, Workman cleared the bases to with a double to give Stout a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Workman gave up one of her two hits in the game, a solo home run to Hannah Koerperich.
The Blue Devils (1-3) threatened in the bottom of the sixth when
Nicole Rogers (So, Brooklyn Center, Minn) doubled with a runner on first, but Stout left both on base. Workman shut down the Spartans in order in top of the seventh.
Rogers had two hits in the game and
Hannah Sweet (Sr, Elk River, Minn) finished with a pair of hits.
In the opener,
Sam Hastings (Sr, Waukesha) gave Stout a 1-0 lead with a solo home run to left field in the top of the first inning. Loras came back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning, using two Stout errors to work out a run
The Duhawks got the game winner in the bottom of the fifth. Samantha Shindelar singled to right field, scoring the game-winner by Stout right fielder
Kaitlin Stark (So, Hastings, Minn) cut down a second runner at the plate attempting to score.
Workman scattered four hits, allowing only one earned run. On the day, Workman allowed six hits, three runs, two earned and walked four.
Stout will take on St. Olaf College, Wednesday, March 12 at the Irish Dome in Rosemount, Minn., starting at 10 a.m.
