Stout falls twice by identical 5-1 scores to ninth ranked Coe College

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (March 30, 2014) - UW-Stout allowed Coe College a single big inning in both games and lost a pair of 5-1 decision to the ninth ranked Kohawks Sunday at Clark Field.

In the opener, Stout scored first with a single run in the bottom of the first inning when Tori Workman (So, Prior Lake, Minn) drove in Lynzi Knudtson (Jr, Melrose). The Kohawks scored in the second and third innings to take a 2-1 lead. Stout had an opportunity to tie the game in the third, but Knudtson was cut down at the plate.

The Kohawsk scored three runs in the top of the sixth. With two outs, ninth hittier Mallory McArtor delivered a bases loaded triple and what would turn out to be the final score.

Stout recorded seven hits, but also fell victim to Coe pitcher Maddison Woodruff, who recorded 13 striketouts. Knudtson was 2-for-4 and Workman was 2-for-3. Workman was no slouch in the circle, commanding nine strikeouts.

In the second game, Stout committed three errors in the fifth inning - two on the same play - in a four-run attack that broke a 1-1 tie.

Stout never led in this game, Coe scored a single run in the second , but Stout tied the score in the fourth, manufacturing a run. Sam Hastings (Sr, Waukesha) reached on a lead off error and moved to second base. Taylor Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn) hit a single to put runners on the corner. Hastings scored when pinch runner Kim Jablonski (Fr, Watertown) got caught up in a rundown on a double steal attempt.

Caty Schloer (Fr, Lino Lake, Minn) took the loss for the Blue Devils, scattering eight hits, no walks and two strikeouts.

Stout is scheduled to host the Unversity of Northwestern, St. Paul, Wednesday, April 2, but that game has tentatively been moved to Thursday, April 10. Stout is scheduled to open the WIAC schedule Saturday, April 4 at UW-Stevens Point and at UW-Whitewater, Sunday, April 5.
