Fort Meyers, Fla. (March 17, 2014) - Charlie Meyer (Jr. Janesville) and
Brett Vavra (Jr. Chippewa Falls) continued to swing a hot bat, while
Ryan Freitag (Jr. Osseo) hit a two run go ahead homerun in the top of the 7th inning in game one, to help lead the Blue Devils to a sweep over Plattsburgh Monday.
In game one Plattsburgh jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second inning. They scored a run on a bases loaded hit by pitch, a sacrifice fly, a RBI double and a bases loaded walk. All four runs were charged to
Adam Widder, (Jr. Wauwatos) who started on the mound. Stout would answer back with a run of their own in the second inning on a Vavra RBI double. Stout would score again in the third when
Jack Schneider (Jr. Minneapolis, Minn.) led off with a double and later scored on a
Nick Nalbach (Fr. Plover) double.
Neither team would score again until the 6th inning. The Blue Devils tied the game at 4-4 on an RBI triple by Meyer and an RBI single by
Jared Francois (Sr. Burlington). Stout completed the comeback in the 7th inning when Nalbach was walked and Freitag his his third home run of the season, a two run shot.Â
Tyler Kinderman (So. Chippewa Falls) earned the win for Stout. Kinderman threw the final 3.0 innings for the Blue Devils giving up just one walk, no hits, and no runs.Â
Game two was a different story as the Blue Devils scored nine first inning runs and never looked back. Lead off hitter
Brady Burzynski (So. Eau Claire) scored twice in the inning, once on a Meyer two RBI double and once on a Freitag two RBI double.Â
Jake Lunow (Jr. Princeton) added a two RBI single in the inning. Stout would score twice more in the game, once on a Vavra RBI single in the second inning and again on a Meyer sac fly in the 5th inning.Â
Wyatt Ernstmeyer (Fr. Reedsburg) earned the win for the Blue Devils in game two. He,
Hayden Bowe (Fr. Eau Claire) and
Cody Loertscher (Sr. Rib Lake), combined to throw a complete game shutout. Ernstmeyer went for innings allowing just one hit, while walking three and striking out three. Bowe followed Ernstmeyer up by throwing two innings of one hit baseball. Loertscher finished the game up on the mound for Stout by throwing one inning, giving up one hit and striking out one batter.
Stout will have an off day tomorrow before returning to action on Wednesday March, 19 for a double header against Southern Vermont starting at 10 a.m.
