UW-Stout 8, U Mass-Boston 4
FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 16, 2014) -
Brady Burzynski (So, Eau Claire) drove in five runs, including two in a four-run ninth inning as UW-Stout came from behind to defeat the University of Massachussetts-Boston, 8-4, Sunday at Terry Park in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic..
The Blue Devils (4-3) trailed 3-1 heading into the fourth, but pulled within one run on a Burzynski sacrifice fly. Stout tied the game when Ryan Frietag 's (Jr, Osseo) seventh inning sacrifice fly plated Burzynski, who led off the inning with a walk.
Stout took a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning when Burzynski tripled to right field to drive in
Jake Lunow (Jr, Princeton), who reached on a one-out single.
The Beacons (2-2) tied the score in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Stout scored all four of their ninth inning runs with two outs.
Charlie Meyer (Jr, Janesville) delivered a one-out double. Following a flyout,
Charlie Pelzer (Sr, Little Canada, Minn) drove in Meyer with a double.
Brett Vavra walked and a single by Lunow. Following a pitching change,
Jack Schneider (Jr, Minneaplis, Minn) filled the bases when he drew a walk and Burzynski drove in Pelzer and Vavra with a double down the right field line.
Andy Peterson (Fr, Stillwater, Minn), who came on in the seventh inning, picked up the win, allowing two hits and one earned run. In the bottom of the ninth, Peterson faced three batters, forcing the first two to fly out and a groundout on the third.
UMass-Boston scored single runs in each of the first three innings. Stout scored a single run in the second inning when Burzynski's ground out drove in Pelzer. Burzynski was 2-for-4, but his only unproductive at-bat was a lead-off pop fly to third base to open the game.
Stout will face Plattsburgh State, Monday, March 17 in a doubleheader.
