Gustavus Adolphus 4, UW-Stout 3ST. PETER, Minn. (November 8, 2014) - UW-Stout matched Gustavus Adolphus goal-for-goal throughout the contest, but ran out of time and the Gusties took a 4-3 overtime win Saturday,
The Blue Devils (0-3-0) never got the lead, but tied the game three times.
The Gusties (2-2-0) opened the scoring at 16:02 of the first period on a shorthanded goal by Travis Lapic. Stout answered back two minutes later when
Jordan Tredinnick scored his first goal of the season, with an assist by
Fabian Hellgren.
Gustavus took advantage of a power play opportunity at the four minute mark of the second period on a goal by Jake Bushey but Stout's
Jake Useldinger scored a shorthhanded goal at 7:15 of the second, with an assist by
Patrick Regan.
The Gusties scored their second shorthanded goal and the third shorthanded goal of the night on an unassisted goal by Drew Aspinwall to close out the second period.
Stout knotted the score for the third time, this time in the third period when
Justin Moody scored at 7:14 of the third period, with an assist by Useldinger.
The Gusties' Gavin Tufte gave the home team the win with 35 seconds left in overtime.
Spencer Viele recorded 37 saves for Stout, while
Erik Johnson recorded 32 saves for the Gusties.
Stout will make their first home appearance of the season when they host Augsburg College, Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the first game of a four-game homestand. Stout will host St. Thomas, Saturday, Nov. 15, Finlandia University, Friday, Nov. 21 and Lawrence University, Saturday, Nov. 22.
