THIS WEEK'S GAMES:  The Blue Devils (6-9, 2-4 WIAC) will close out their three-game road swing with a trip to UW-La Crosse (7-7, 1-4 WIAC), Wednesday, Jan. 15, before finally returning to Johnson Fieldhouse, Saturday, Jan. 18 to host UW-Oshkosh (13-1, 4-1 WIAC) `at 3 p.m. The Oshkosh game marks the end of the first round of WIAC play.

STOUT THIS SEASON:  Stout picked up their second conference victory of the season against Platteville on Saturday January 11.  The win moves the Blue Devils one game out of the current playoff standings.  The Blue Devils have two players averaging double digits, Sami Schoeder at 10.9 per game and Kyleigh Hebert at 10.5 per game.  Shelby Sterba and Brea Boomer are averaging 9.0 and 9.3 points respectively.  Seven different Blue Devils have led Stout in scoring at least once, Schoeder in six games. Sterba has been the team's leading rebounder with 6.5 boards per contest, followed by Boomer with 5.7. The Blue Devils' fifth starter, Katelynne Folkers is averaging 6.9 points and 5.5 rebounds and leads the team in steals with 2.5 per contest.  Stout currently leads all WIAC opponents in rebounding, averaging 43.7 per game The Blue Devils are being outscored, 69.1-65.4. STOUT LAST TIME OUT:    Katelynn Folkers scored her first career double-double to lead UW-Stout past UW-Platteville Saturday evening.  Folkers racked up 14 points, including three clutch free throws in the final seconds of play, and pulled down a career-best 14 rebounds.  Folkers had plenty of support Sami Schoeder scored 17 points for the second consecutive game and Kyleigh Hebert contributed 14 points.  The Pioneers led for the most of the first 10 minutes of the game, but once Jenna Goldsmith gave Stout the lead at 16-15 midway through the first half, Stout never trailed the rest of the way and held as much as a 16 point, 71-56, lead with 2-minutes, 28-seconds left.  Platteville made a final charge at the Blue Devils, cutting the lead to nine points. Three free throws by Folkers put Stout back in charge.  Schoeder, Folkers and Hebert split the scoring evenly between the two halves. Schoeder scored nine points in the first half, while Folkers and Hebert second seven points in each half. Goldsmith finished with eight points, doubling her collegiate-best totals and matching her collegiate-best in rebounds with six.  Platteville's Alyssa Krajco matched Schoeder's 17 points and Melissa Carmody tossed in 15 points.  Stout shot 43.3 percent (26-60), Platteville 33.9 percent (20-59). STOUT LAST SEASON:  The Blue Devils finished the 2012-13 season with a 10-15 overall record, 4-12 in the WIAC, an eighth place finish. Eleven different players posted starts at one point throughout the season as injury swept through the team. Stout does return three of their four leading scorers from last year in Brea Boomer, Sami Schoeder and Katelynne Folkers. Boomer started 21 games, Schoeder 15 and Folkers 24. Stout was the fourth-ranked team in the conference in scoring (64.0), but was lost in points allowed (68.8) and eighth in scoring margin (minus 4.8). Stout led the league in steals (11.36), was fourth in blocked shots (2.84), first in offensive rebounds (15.28), fifth in defensive rebounds (25.16) and third in 3-point shots made (4.80).

UW- LA CROSSE: The Eagles have dropped their last two games heading into the matchup with the Blue Devils.  Mallory Cramer leads La Crosse in scoring at 11.7 per game and rebounding at 7.3.  Rachel Atchison is second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.3 points.  Atchison also leads the team in steals with 29.  Katie Ehlen leads the Eagles in assists with 36 for the season.  La Crosse leads the WIAC in field goal percentage defense, only allowing teams to shoot 35 percent against them.  The Eagles are second in the WIAC in blocked shots averaging 3.07 per game.  | 2013-14 Statistics       

LAST TIME THEY MET:  The Blue Devils and Eagles split their two games last year.  La Crosse won game one 69-56 in La Crosse.  Stout won game two 69-57 in Menomonie behind 14 points from Brea Boomer.  | Game One | Game Two

UW-OSHKOSH:  Oshkosh is currently ranked 19th in the D3 Hoops national poll.  Their lone defeat of the season came against UW-Whitewater.  The Titans lead all WIAC teams in several statistical categories including.  They lead in scoring defense, only giving up 51.6 points per game, scoring margin (+17.2), 3 point field goal percentage defense (24 percent), Assists (14.79 per game) and assists to turnover ratio (.98).  Sarah Stecker leads the Titans in scoring, averaging 11.5 points per game.  Katelyn Kuehl is second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.2 points per game and also leads the team in rebounding with an average of 7.7.    | 2013-14 Statistics

LAST TIME THEY MET:  Oshkosh won both meetings against Stout last season.  The Titans won a low scoring affair 45-36 in Oshkosh in game one.  They took game two 55-40 in Menomonie.  | Game One | Game Two

AWARDS AND HONORS: Kyleigh Hebert was selected as the UW-Stout/Northwestern Mutual athlete of the week Jan. 6.

TRADITION: In 10 of the last 14 seasons, Stout has been either the first or second leading scoring team in the WIAC. In the final team standings, Stout has finished no lower in the conference than fourth in 11 of the last 15 years

JOHNSON FIELDHOUSE: The "cozy confines of Johnson Fieldhouse" has proven to be quite an advantage for the Blue Devils. Since the 2000-01 season, Stout has posted a 123-34 (.784) record at home. In conference games at Johnson Fieldhouse since 2000-01, Stout has a 76-26 (.747) record. Throw in the conference tournament games, and Stout has an 90-26 (.779) overall record against WIAC opponents at home.

TEAM CAPTAINS:  Senior Sami Schoeder, junior Brea Boomer and sophomore Kyleigh Hebert are team captains for the 2013-14 season.

THE COACHES: UW-Stout: Mark Thomas (438-269) is in his 27th year as the coach of the Blue Devils. Thomas has led his teams to 10 national playoff berths, nine times in the NCAA. A six-time WIAC coach of the year, the Blue Devils have won five conference titles and four conference tournament championships. His teams have twice been to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Thomas is the first WIAC coach to have reached 400 career wins. Thomas also has the most wins of any Stout basketball coach, either men's or women's. Dwain Mintz coached the men's basketball program for 27 years and compiled a 385-280 record.  UW-La Crosse:  Lois Heeren  is in her 15th season with the Eagles. She is the all time winningest coach in program history and ranks 10th in all time wins in WIAC history.  UW-Oshkosh:  Brad Fischer is in his second season with the Titans.  In his first season the Titans improved their record by 13 wins.  It was the largest turnaround in WIAC history and earned coach Fischer the WIAC coach of the year award. 

THE ROAD TO 400 WINS: Mark Thomas' first collegiate win came the second game of his first season when his Blue Devils, which had won only two games over the previous two years, defeated Mt. Senario, 73-44, in November, 1987. The wins came more often after that. Thomas got his 50th win, Feb. 28, 1991, 71-60, over Cardinal Stritch. The 100th win came Jan. 10, 1994, an 80-59 win over UM-Morris. No. 200 came at UW-River Falls, a 78-74 victory on Jan. 5, 2000. Thomas' 300th win came in overtime, a 76-68 decision over UW-Stevens Point, Jan. 29, 2005. Thomas' 400th win came at UW-Stevens Point, a 90-76 decision, Feb. 3, 2010.

CONFERENCES: UW-Stout, UW-La Crosse and UW-Oshkosh are members of the nine-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW- Platteville, UW-River Falls, UW-Superior, and UW-Whitewater.
