Sixth ranked North Central College gives Stout 41-14 gridiron loss

NAPERVILLE, Ill (September 21, 2013) - North Central College showed why they were ranked sixth in the latest D3football.com Top 25 poll, when they rolled up the first 41 points in the game and went on to a 41-14 win over previously undefeated UW-Stout, Saturday at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

The Cardinals (2-0) rode the arm of quarterback Spencer Stanek, who completed a nearly flawless 24-of-26 passes for 278 yards and four touchdowns before he took a seat in the third quarter.

Stanek opened the scoring with a six-yard TD run with three minutes left in the first perod, then threw three TD passes in the second quarter, two to Peter Sorensen for 5- and 6-yards, and another to Ryan Szudarski, a four-yard pass with 20 seconds remaining in the half to give North Central a 27-0 halftime lead.

Stanek and Szudarski connected four minutes into the third quarter ona two-yard pass play and a 34-0 lead. Back-up quarterback Tyler Dicken tossed an 8-yard scoring pass to Ryne Rezac to open the final stanza.

The Blue Devils (2-1)  found the scoreboard midway through the final quarter when Tanner Kuehn (Jr, Fairchild) capped off an 11-play, 73-yard drive. Stout added another score with 16 seconds remaining when freshman back-up quarterback Sawyer Moon (Woodbury, Minn) and Zak Snell (Jr, Castaic, Calif) hooked up for a 39-yard scoring reception.

North Central finished with 584 total yards of offense, 264 rushing, 320 yards passing. Stout tallied 361 yards of total offense, 148 on the ground, 213 in the air.

Stout QB Hank Kujak (Jr, Blair), completed 17-of-29 passes for 170 yards, but was picked off once. Adolfo Pecheco (Fr, South Elgin, Ill) carried the ball eight times for 65 yards and Kuehn finished with 44 yards on 10 carries. Brian Alvarez (Jr, Atwater, Calif.) had five catches for 45 yards and Cody Rosemeyer (Jr, Gilman) had four catches for 44 yards. Snell finished with 45 yards on three grabs.

Jake Schiff (Sr, South Range) had a 26-yard interception return, his first collegiate interception, in the third period and finished the afternoon with eight tackles. Tyler Naatz (Jr, Menomonie) finished with 15 tackles and Luke Bakkum (Jr, Oconomowoc) had 10.

The Cardinals' Sorensen had 10 receptions for 129 yards. Zach Pattat carried the ball 15 times for 80 yards.

Stout has a bye, Saturday, Sept. 28 and returns to action Saturday, Oct. 5 when they host UW-Oshkosh at 2 p.m.
