Platteville takes a pair of games from Blue Devils

PLATTEVILLE (April 27, 2013) - At times, UW-Stout could be it's own worst enemy as the Blue Devils committed seven total errors while suffering two losses at UW-Platteville Saturday. The Pioneers won the first game, 9-5, then took the second contest, 5-1.

The Pioneers (9-22, 4-12 WIAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Stout got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Mitch LaVelle (Fr, Chippewa Falls) sliced a one-run single. The Pioneers went about business throughout the day, getting single runs in the fourth and the fifth, and Stout added a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Stout (8-21, 2-12 WIAC) pulled to within 5-3 when Kellen Pearson (Fr, Hudson) drove in Matt Guida (Sr, Hawley, Minn). The Pioneers added two in the eighth as did Stout. Platteville got two final runs in the ninth.

Pearson, Brady Burzyinski (Fr, Eau Claire) and Santiago Morales (Sr, West St. Paul, Minn) each had two hits for Stout. Jon Lewereke had three hits for the Pioneers. George Jester and Casey Schroeder each had two hits.

In the second game, the Blue Devils were held scoreless until the bottom of the ninth when Austin Littman (Fr, Pittsville) drove in a run with a two-out single.

The Pioneers scored two runs both the second and third innings, then added a single run in the fifth.

Both teams finished with eight hits. Littman and LaVelle each had two hits for Stout. Lewerke had two hits with two RBI for Platteville.

The teams will meet again Sunday, April 28 in Platteville. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
