On a dreary April day, Blue Devils drop two games at Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT (April 17, 2013) - On a dreary, cool April day, playing in a persistent rain throughout much of the doubleheader, UW-Stevens Point defeated UW-Stout, 2-1, 12-1, Wednesday at University Field.

The Blue Devils (7-14, 1-5 WIAC) hung with the Pointers (15-6, 7-3 WIAC) in the first game. The Pointers opened the contest with a run in the first inning when Jimmy Coady singled in a run.

Stout tied the score inthe fourth when Colin Pechachek (So, River Falls) reached on an error, advanced to second on a wild pitch, was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Sill (Sr, Wabasha, Minn) and plated on a sacrifice fly by Jackson Hallahan (Jr, Lester Prairie, Minn).

Stevens Point got just enough for the win in the first fifth inning when Coady drove in his second run of the game, this time on an infield hit.

Dan Britts (Sr, Nekoosa) took the loss for Stout, scattering eight hits, and allowing only one earned run. He recorded thiree strikeouts. Stevens Point pitchers JP Feyereisen and Nick Prebelski combined for eight strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Stevens Point scored six runs in the first inning and three in the second on their way to the 7-inning contest shortened by the 10-run rule. Stout's only run came in the third inning when Mitch LaVelle (Fr, Chippewa Falls) scored from third on a throwing error after opening the inning with a walk. He advanced to second on Aaron Littman's (Fr, Pittsville) and moved to third on a fielder's choice.

Kasey Kruse (So, Boyceville) had two hits in the game for the Blue Devils. Dan Douglas was 3-for-4 for the Pointers. Casey Barnes, Bryton Guckenberg and Riley Spetz each had two hits.

Stout will be at UW-Whitewater, Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21. Those games were originally scheduled to be held in Menomonie, but winter field conditions will not permit.
