THE BLUE DEVILS (10-14, 4-11 WIAC): Stout's season, which has been a struggle for much of the second half, will come to an end at home this Saturday. Stout got out to an 8-6 start, but have since gone just 2-8 to drop out of playoff contention. After a shootout loss in Eau Claire on Saturday, Stout was smothered by UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday, a 78-51 loss at Berg Gym in Stevens Point. The Pointers dominated from start to finish. They jumped out to a 10-2 run, and minutes later reeled off a 13-0 run to grab a commanding 25-6 lead, midway through the period. From there, they never led by less than 10 and led by as much as 29 points before the finish. One good note among the bad ones was
Brea Boomer's 14-point performance as she continues to play well to close out her sophomore season. Boomer has now scored at least 14 points in her past three games and has scored at least 10 in five of Stout's last six contests. Boomer leads the team in scoring with 11.8 points per game and her field goal percentage of .513 is the second best in the WIAC...
Katelynne Folkers remains one of Stout's most consistent contributors across the entire stat sheet. She leads the team in rebounds (5.0 rpg), steals (58) and assists (51), and is second in scoring (8.7 per game)...
Sami Schoeder has been hit or miss all year, and remains Stout's best option from beyond the arc. On the season, she is 40-of-124, about a 32 percent clip. Shoeder led Stout with seven rebounds against Stevens Point...
Kayla Windt pulled down a career-high 13 boards two games ago, and is tied with Boomer with 4.3 boards per game, trailing only Folkers. |

Brea Boomer scored 10 of her team-high 14 points in the first half to lead Stout. Boomer was the only Blue Devil in double figures.
Kayla Windt finished with eight points, as did
Kyleigh Hebert.

SCOUTING UW-OSHKOSH (19-5, 11-4 WIAC):
A year after finishing just 1-15 in conference play, UW-Oshkosh has been one of the league's most pleasant surprises this season. In his first season as the head coach of the Titans, Brad Fischer has turned a last-place team into a contender in just one season. Much of Oshkosh's success is due to their rebounding dominance and their solid defense. Their rebounding margin of +5.6 is second best in the conference while they rank first in scoring defense, allowing just 50.9 points per game. Oshkosh's free throw percentage of 78.1 is far best among WIAC teams and places them second in the nation in that category. Megan Wenig and Katie Kitzke have provided much of the scoring for the Titans, averagaing 13.1 and 12.3 points per game, respectively. One of the two has led Oshkosh in scoring in 20 of the team's 24 games, Kitzke doing so in four of the last five. Kitzke has two separate games of 25 points while Wenig has delivered five game with 18 or more points. Both of them shoot a lot of three-pointers, but Wenig's 40 percent clip is a lot scarier for the Blue Devils than Kitzke's .274 average. Katelyn Kueuhl and Heather Conroy are averaging 6.7 and 5.4 rebounds per game, respectively, ranking them sixth and eleventh in the conference in that category. Kueuhl adds 8.4 points per game while Conroy contirbutes 6.2 per contest. | 2012-13 Statistics
UW-OSHKOSH'S LAST TIME OUT: In what was a tight ballgame throughout, UW-Whitewater outlasted Oshkosh for a 58-49 victory, Wednesday night in Oshkosh. With the win, the Warhawks clinched the WIAC Championship for the second time in four years. Katie Kitzke drained a three-pointer with 1:58 left to give UW-Oshkosh a 49-48 lead. But Courtney Kumerow responded with a lay-up, put-back and free throw to put the Warhawks ahead 54-49 with 40 seconds remaining. Oshkosh's Megan Wenig led all players with 17 points while Kumerow led Whitewater in both points (15) and rebounds (10). | Story and Stats
THE SERIES: UW-Oshkosh leads the series, 44-20, overall, but has not been as dominant lately. Oshkosh has won the first meeting in each of the past four seasons (including this season), but Stout has answered with victories in the second meeting the past three seasons. Stout has won 11 of the past 15 matchups, including a stretch of nine in a row from 2006 to 2010.
EARLIER THIS SEASON (Jan. 12, 2012): UW-Stout came out on the short end of one of the lower scoring contests in recent history, falling 45-36 to UW-Oshkosh, at Kolf Sports Center. The Blue Devils led 16-13 at halftime, but the Titans outscored Stout 32-20 in the second half to notch the win. The Titans tied the score a minute into the second period, but the teams traded leads for the next nine minutes until Oshkosh took the lead for good with nine minutes left in the contest. The Titans' Megan Wenig was the only player to score in double digits, scoring 13. Katelyn Kuehl had 12 rebounds for the Titans. Stout was led by Brea Boomer and Kyleigh Hebert with nine points apiece. | Story and Stats
TRADITION: In 10 of the last 13 seasons, Stout has been either the first or second leading scoring team in the WIAC. In the final team standings, Stout has finished no lower in the conference than fourth in 11 of the last 14 years. Last year broke the trend, however, as they finished second to last in scoring and eight out of nine teams in the conference standings with a final league record of 3-13.
JOHNSON FIELDHOUSE: The “cozy confines of Johnson Fieldhouse” has proven to be quite an advantage for the Blue Devils. Since the 2000-01 season, Stout has posted a 122-34 (.784) record at home. In conference games at Johnson Fieldhouse since 2000-01, Stout has a 76-26 (.747) record. Throw in the conference tournament games, and Stout has an 90-26 (.779) overall record against WIAC opponents at home.
THE COACHES: UW-Stout: Mark Thomas (430-256) is in his 26th year as the coach of the Blue Devils. Thomas has led his teams to 10 national playoff berths, nine times in the NCAA. A six-time WIAC coach of the year, the Blue Devils have won five conference titles and four conference tournament championships. His teams have twice been to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Thomas is the first WIAC coach to have reached 400 career wins. Thomas also has the most wins of any Stout basketball coach, either men's or women's. Dwain Mintz coached the men's basketball program for 27 years and compiled a 385-280 record.
| UW-Oshkosh: Brad Fischer is in his first season as the head coach of the Titans after coming to Oshkosh from UW-Parkside, where he served as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. He is not completely new to the WIAC coaching circuit, however, as he spent three seasons as an assistant at UW-La Crosse, from 2003-06.
THE ROAD TO 400 WINS:
Mark Thomas' first collegiate win came the second game of his first season when his Blue Devils, which had won only two games over the previous two years, defeated Mt. Senario, 73-44, in November, 1987. The wins came more often after that. Thomas got his 50th win, Feb. 28, 1991, 71-60, over Cardinal Stritch. The 100th win came Jan. 10, 1994, an 80-59 win over UM-Morris. No. 200 came at UW-River Falls, a 78-74 victory on Jan. 5, 2000. Thomas' 300th win came in overtime, a 76-68 decision over UW-Stevens Point, Jan. 29, 2005. Thomas' 400th win came at UW-Stevens Point, a 90-76 decision, Feb. 3, 2010.
CONFERENCES: Stout and
Oshkosh are both members of the nine-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Superior, and UW-Whitewater.
