RIVER FALLS (October 23, 2013) - With the snowflakes lightly falling on a gloomy October afternoon,
Lauren Kizlik (Fr, Hammond) lit up the field when she cut through the UW-River Falls' defense early in the game to score the only goal in a UW-Stout 1-0 win Wednesday at Ramer Field.
In the 14th minute of the contest, Kizlik, a River Falls High School graduate, unleashed a shot from about 20 feet out that found the back of the net and the Stout (6-8-1, 4-2-0 WIAC) defense made the lone goal stand up and keep the Blue Devils in contention to host a first round WIAC playoff game.
The Falcons (6-8-1, 2-3-1 WIAC) had a chance late in the first half following a corner kick. In the skirmish that followed the corner, the Falcons looked like they would get the equalizer. But a Stout defender cleared the ball from the corner of the net to keep the Falcons off the board.
Stout's
Paige Meyer (So, Beldenville), also a River Falls High School grad, stepped up big in the second half, stopping five Falcon shots on frame in the half, completing the game with six saves. The shutout was Meyer's first of the season and improved her record to 3-4-0.
The Falcons outshot Stout, 8-7, for the game and put six shots on net compared to Stout's three. River Falls' Rebecca Kramer finished the day with two saves.
Stout will host UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m., then will close out the regular season when they travel to UW-Platteville, Saturday, Nov. 2 for a 2 p.m. contest.
