THE BLUE DEVILS (8-9, 2-6 WIAC): Stout has hit a bit of an icy patch in the road recently, losing their last three games, their longest skid of the season. The Blue Devils began their skid with a 31-point loss to Stevens Point in which they allowed a season-high 88 points. They followed that up with a 29.2 percent shooting effort against Oshkosh, which was their worst field goal percentage of the season. However, Wednesday brought a new low when they shot 29.1 percent from the field against La Crosse, who entered that game with just one conference win. Their shooting percentages and their rebounding margin have been consistent indicators of their success or demise. They are 1-8 with a negative rebounding margin, while they are 7-1 with a positive margin. Furthermore, they are 6-0 if they shoot over 42 percent from the field, but just 2-9 when they do not...
Brea Boomer continues to play well and has now led the team in scoring in four of the past five games. Boomer scored a career-high 22 in two of those games, but both resulted in losses. On the season, Boomer is averaging 12.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, and is shooting a team- and WIAC-best .546 from the field.
Sami Schoeder continues to keep us guessing. After she began to hit her stride at the end of December, into January, she has gone 2-for-15 from the field in their past three games, including 0-for-9 from three.
Katelynne Folkers continues her consistent production across the entire stat sheet. She leads the team in rebounds (5.1 rpg), steals (46) and assists (39), is second in blocks (5), and third in scoring (9.2 per game). |

STOUT'S LAST TIME OUT: A poor shooting night from the field ultimately doomed the UW-Stout women's basketball team, as they shot only 26% in the second half and 29% overall in a 69-56 loss to UW-La Crosse, Wednesday night. The Blue Devils got out to an early lead, going ahead 1-0 on a
Brea Boomer free throw less than a minute into the game, but the Eagles went on a 15-0 scoring run to build a comfortable lead mid-way through the half. Late in the half, Stout put together a 7-1 scoring run of their own, cutting the deficit to only two as they trailed 23-25 at the half. Three unanswered points in the first two minutes of the second half once again put the Blue Devils up by one, before La Crosse went on a 14-4 run over a three minute stretch to push the lead back to nine. A 10-0 run by Stout, including five from
Katelynne Folkers, brought the Blue Devils right back into the game, tying the score at 42 with less than 12 minutes to go. Stout would get no closer though, and La Crosse promptly retook the lead and held it for the remainder of the game, going up by as many as 16 on their way to the victory.
Shelby Sterba narrowly missed out on a double-double for Stout, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds, five offensive. Boomer and
Kayla Windt led the way for the Blue Devils with 13 points apiece. Windt went just 3-7 from the filed, but 7-8 from the foul line. She also grabbed seven rebounds, five offensive. Boomer added five rebounds of her own, including four on the offensive end. |

SCOUTING #24 UW-WHITEWATER (12-5, 6-2 WIAC): A week ago, UW-Whitewater was sitting atop the WIAC with a perfect 6-0 conference record and riding a four-game win streak. Fast-forward seven days and they are in a four-way tie for first after losing back-to-back games for the first time this season. A 67-59 loss to Superior preceded a 54-49 loss to Oshkosh, allowing both of those teams, and Stevens Point, to earn a share of the conference lead. Their 49 points against Oshkosh was their lowest scoring output of the season, one in which they average over 70 points per game. Whitewater has forced the most turnovers of any team in the WIAC, so it is not surprising that they forced 26 Stout turnovers the first time these teams met, back in early December. Cortney Kumerow leads the Warhawks in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.6 and 7.2 per game, respectively. She has totaled four double-doubles so far this season, more than Stout's entire team, combined. Kaitlyn Thill adds 11.4 points per game and is third in the conference with 3.35 assists per game. Lisa Palmer trails Kumerow in rebounding with a 6.1-rebound per game average. | 2012-13 Statistics
UW-WHITEWATER'S LAST TIME OUT: UW-Whitewater had their worst offensive performance of the season on Wednesday in a 54-49 loss to UW-Oshkosh. It was their first loss against Oshkosh in 13 meetings, and dropped them into a four-way tie for first place in the WIAC after holding the lead alone a week earlier. In the low-scoring affair, it was Whitewater that dominated the first half. They jumped out to a 14-4 lead, and led 14-5 midway through the half. They stretched their lead to as much as 11 points before Oshkosh put together a run near the end of the half, making it a 22-16 halftime score. Midway through the second half, the Warhawks held a 34-27 lead, but a 9-1 Oshkosh run gave them their first lead of the game. From there, they stretched the margin to seven before Whitewater put together a comeback. Cortney Kumerow hit a bucket to give Whitewater the lead with two minutes to go, but it was the Titans who used defensive stops and free throws to seal the victory. Kumerow's 15 points and six rebound led Whitewater. | Story and Stats
THE SERIES: Whitewater leads the series 35-28, overall. The Warhawks have won ten of the last 11 meetings, including victories in the past six.
EARLIER THIS SEASON (Dec. 1, 2012): UW-Stout opened up a large first half lead, but could not hold on against UW-Whitewater, falling, 72-53, in their conference opener at Johnson Fieldhouse. Brea Boomer jumpstarted the Blue Devil offense, scoring the team's first six points to grab an early 6-2 lead. Whitney Rawdon, who ended the game with a team-high 16 points, added five points on two straight possessions, stretching Stout's lead to nine points. Whitewater kept firing back with buckets of their own, but Stout was able to maintain their lead for the next couple minutes. A Sami Schoeder three-pointer gave Stout an eight point lead midway through the half. It was from then on that Whitewater showed why they were ranked 12th, as the scale began to tip in their favor. An 11-2 run gave the Warhawks a 24-23 lead, their first of the evening, and a 9-0 run shortly thereafter gave them a seven point, 33-26 lead. They were able to take that lead into the locker rooms along with a lot of momentum. They carried that momentum into the second half, reeling off a 14-1 run to open up a 20-point lead. Stout did not score a second-half field goal until 10:52 remained in the game. In fact, they were just 5-for-24 from the field after halftime, compared to 12-for-25 before the break. Whitewater's Cortney Kumerow led all players with 18 points and 10 rebounds and three other Warhawks joined her as double digit scorers. Whitewater out-rebounded the Devils, 43-26, including a 26-14 edge in the second half. Both teams posted goose eggs from three in the second half, combining to miss all 13 attempts. Overall, the teams shot a combined 6-for-29 from beyond the arc, just over 17 percent. | Story and Stats
