THIS WEEK BY THE NUMBERS
.420 Stout is 6-0 when their field goal percentage is better than .420 (2-8 in games where it is .420 or lower).
7-0 Stout's record this year with a positive rebound margin.
1-8 Stout's record this year with a negative rebound margin.
0-11 Stout's record in their past 11 games, combined, against this week's opponents (0-5 vs. LX; 0-6 vs. WW)
THE BLUE DEVILS (8-8, 2-5 WIAC): UW-Stout has now allowed their highest defensive effort and their lowest offensive output of the year, in consecutive games, allowing 88 points to Stevens Point before scoring just 36 points at Oshkosh on Saturday. Stout shot 29.2 percent from the field in the loss to Oshkosh, their lowest shooting percentage of the season. Their shooting percentages and their rebounding margin have consistently been indicators of their success or demise. After losing the rebounding battle to Oshkosh, they dropped to 1-8 with a negative rebounding margin, while they are 7-0 with a positive margin. Furthermore, they are 6-0 if they shoot over 42 percent from the field, but just 2-8 when they do not...Brea Boomer continues to play well and has now led the team in scoring in three of the past four games. Boomer scored a career-high 22 in two of those games, but both resulted in losses. On the season, Boomer is averaging 12.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, and is shooting a team- and WIAC-best .575 from the field. Sami Schoeder continues to keep us guessing. After she began to hit her stride at the end of December, into January, she has gone 2-for-12 from the field in their past two games, including 0-for-6 from three. Katelynne Folkers continues her consistent production across the entire stat sheet. She leads the team in rebounds (5.3 rpg), steals (45) and assists (39), is second in blocks (4), and third in scoring (9.2 per game). | 2012-13 Statistics

STOUT'S LAST TIME OUT: UW-Stout came out on the short end of one of the lower scoring contests in recent history, falling 45-36 to UW-Oshkosh, Saturday at Kolf Sports Center. The Blue Devils led 16-13 at halftime, but the Titans outscored Stout 32-20 in the second half to notch the win. The Titans tied the score a minute into the second period, but the teams traded leads for the next nine minutes until Oshkosh took the lead for good with nine minutes left in the contest. Stout got as close to one point several times, the final time when Shelby Sterba (So, Ladysmith) score at 4:57 to make the score 35-34. Oshkosh scored the next six points and the Blue Devils never got closer than five points. The Titans' Megan Wenig was the only player to score in double digits, scoring 13.  Katelyn Kuehl had 12 rebounds for the Titans. Stout was led by Brea Boomer and Kyleigh Hebert with nine points apiece. Sterba finished with six rebounds. Neither team shot particularly well from the floor. Oshkosh shot 33.3 percent (16-48) from the floor, while Stout shot 29.2 percent (14-48). | Story and Stats

SCOUTING UW-LA CROSSE (7-9, 1-6 WIAC): UW-La Crosse has struggled to put the ball in the basket this season, averaging a WIAC-low 56.1 points per game. Combine that with their -2.1 rebounding margin and you get their below .500 average, which includes just one win in league play. That lone win came in a 46-45 barnburner with Platteville, the only other WIAC team that has a single league win. They have been streaky, following a four-game losing streak with a four-game win streak, and currently ride a three-game losing skid, all of which were conference games. Briana Radowicz has carried the team so far, scoring 13.9 points per game, which is the third best average in the conference. She also adds 4.1 rebounds per game. Maggi Bishop leads the Eagles in rebounding with 6.5 boards per game, but is trailed closely by Erin Levenhagen, who collects 6.3 per contest. Levenhagen boasts the team's third-best scoring average with 8.2 points per game, trailing Radowicz and Trisha Van Dusseldorp, who does most of her damage from beyond the arc. Van Dusseldorp averages 8.9 points per game, with just under half of those coming from beyond the arc. Bishop, Radowicz, and Levenhagen each have one double-double on the season. | 2012-13 Statistics

UW-LA CROSSE'S LAST TIME OUT: UW-La Crosse predictably fell, 67-47, Saturday evening at 16th-ranked UW-Stevens Point. The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but a 12-0 Stevens Point run gave the Pointers control of the game, and the Eagles never led again. In the second half, La Crosse was able to shrink their deficit down to four, midway through the half. That was as close as they would get, however, and Stevens Point ended the game on a 17-5 run to seal the conference victory. Trisha Van Dusseldorp led La Crosse with 12 points, while Sam Barber scored a game-high 25 for Stevens Point. | Story and Stats

THE SERIES: UW-Stout leads the series, 43-22, overall, but has not shown that dominance recently, losing the last five meetings. La Crosse has won six of the last 10.

LAST TIME THEY MET (Feb. 8, 2012):
Time and again, UW-Stout kept coming back, but could not quite get there as the Blue Devils dropped a tight 65-61 decision at UW-La Crosse. In a game that featured seven ties in the first half, La Crosse carried a 38-34 lead into the halftime locker room. The Blue Devils continued to keep the game close throughout the majority of the second half until La Crosse took an 8, then a 10, then an 11 point, 59-48, lead with 3:41 remaining in the game. But the Blue Devils began to come back. Brea Boomer recorded a pair of free throws, then landed a bucket to cut the lead to 59-52. Whitney Rawdon got Stout to with two points, 59-57, at 1:43 with a 3-pointer and a jumper. The Blue Devils were forced to foul, and the Eagles made 6-of-8 free throws down the stretch. Stout got the score to 62-59 on a layup by Bethany Reyzer with 14 seconds, then to 63-61 on a layup by Haley Froehlich with a couple of ticks left on the clock. Stout did not have an answer for Kassie Robinson, who scored 23 points and 12 rebounds. Rachel Salata scored 14 points for the Eagles, while Katie Ehlen had 12 rebounds. Rawdon and Boomer each scored 14 points to lead Stout, while Reyzer contributed 13 points. | Story and Stats

THE COACHES: UW-Stout: Mark Thomas (429-252) is in his 26th year as the coach of the Blue Devils. Thomas has led his teams to 10 national playoff berths, nine times in the NCAA. A six-time WIAC coach of the year, the Blue Devils have won five conference titles and four conference tournament championships. His teams have twice been to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Thomas is the first WIAC coach to have reached 400 career wins. Thomas also has the most wins of any Stout basketball coach, either men's or women's. Dwain Mintz coached the men's basketball program for 27 years and compiled a 385-280 record. | UW-La Crosse: Lois Heeren is in her 14th year as the head coach of the Eagles. Two years ago, Heeren led her squad to their first NCAA Tournament since the 1987-88 season, with a record of 20-8. Their conference record of 12-4 was the best in school history and was good enough to get them an at-large bid into the tournament after they placed second. Heeren came to La Crosse after two years as an assistant coach at the United States Air Force Academy. She is a 1984 graduate of Truman State University, where she studied Health, Fitness, and Wellness.

CONFERENCES: Stout, La Crosse, and Whitewater are all members of the nine-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-Eau Claire, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, and UW-Superior.

UP NEXT: Stout returns home, Wednesday, Jan. 23, to host UW-River Falls in the first of three home games over a four-game stretch.
