Stout on both ends of 9-4 scores with St. Mary's

MENOMONIE (April 3, 2012) - UW-Stout found themselves on both ends of 9-4 scores as they split a pair of non-conference games with St. Mary's University Tuesday at Nelson Field.

The Blue Devils (9-7) took the first contest, mostly on the strength of a four-run second inning. Matt Guida (Jr, Hawley, Minn) opened the inning with a singled, then the catcher legged it home from first on Jon Schoch's (Sr, Chippewa Falls) triple Santiago Morales' (Jr, West St. Paul, Minn) doubled down the right field line to drive in three runs.

Morales finished the game 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. He opened Stout's half of the first inning with a solo home run. Guida went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI.

Ryan Sajdera (So, Winter) recorded the win, allowing four hits and two runs, one earned. He struck out two.

In the nightcap, the Cardinals (9-10) got to Blue Devils pitchers after the second inning, scoring a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings, then added five runs in the fiffh before Stout got on the board with two runs apiece in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Cardinals belted out 10 hits to Stout's five. Brett Vavra (Fr, Chippewa Falls) and Ben Yaucher (Jr, Janesville) each had a pair of hits.

Stout returns to conference play when they travel to UW-Platteville, Thursday, April 5 and Friday, April 6.
