THIS WEEK BY THE NUMBERS
24-2 Stout's record against UW-Superior in their 26 meetings since 2000.
.689 Stout's all-time winning percentage against Platteville, their highest of such against any WIAC opponent.
24.1 Average number of points each Stout game has been decided by, win or lose.
.133 Whitewater's three-point percentage on Saturday, the lowest of any Stout opponent who attempted more than 10 threes since Edgewood went 0-for-13 in 2010.
6 Combined wins against Superior and Platteville over past two seasons (8 total WIAC victories).

THE BLUE DEVILS (4-3, 0-1 WIAC): Stout has seen some ups and downs in a season that has featured some big wins and some big losses. The Blue Devils have only played in one game decided by 10 points or less, a six-point win against Hamline. They have a 55-point win and a 40-point loss, and their seven games, win or lose, have been decided by an average of 24 points, although their overall scoring margin is just +2.1. Despite an early lead, Stout fell to Whitewater, Saturday, in their first WIAC contest, ending their three-game win streak. Senior Whitney Rawdon has back-to-back games with 16 points and leads the team in scoring (13.6 ppg) and rebounding (5.9 rpg). Brea Boomer is pitching in 11.4 points per game and Katelynne Folkers is offering 9.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest. Sami Schoeder, who has worked her way back into the starting lineup, is averaging 8.8 points per game including a 24-point performance against St. Scholastica. Five Blue Devils are averaging at least four rebounds per game as they are out-rebounding their opponents, 44-41 on average. | 2012-13 Statistics

CONTINUING THE TREND: In both recent years and throughout their program's history, Stout has taken advantage of their games against this week's opponents. Their all-time winning percentages against UW-Platteville and UW-Superior are .689 (42-19) and .610 (47-30), respectively, which rank first and third among Stout's winning percentages against WIAC opponents. In the past six season, Stout is a combined 21-3 against them. Stout has won 24 of the past 26 against Superior and 12 of the last 13 against Platteville, so they will look to continue the trend this week.

STOUT'S LAST TIME OUT: In their conference opener on Saturday, UW-Stout opened up a large first half lead, but could not hold on against 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater, falling, 72-53. Brea Boomer jumpstarted the Blue Devil offense, scoring the team's first six points to grab an early 6-2 lead. Whitney Rawdon, who ended the game with a team-high 16 points, added five points on two straight possessions, stretching Stout's lead to nine points. Whitewater kept firing back with buckets of their own, but Stout was able to maintain their lead for the next couple minutes.  A Sami Schoeder three-pointer gave Stout an eight point lead midway through the half. It was from then on that Whitewater showed why they were ranked 12th, as the scale began to tip in their favor. An 11-2 run gave the Warhawks a 24-23 lead, their first of the evening, and a 9-0 run shortly thereafter gave them a seven point, 33-26 lead. They were able to take that lead into the locker rooms along with a lot of momentum. They carried that momentum into the second half, reeling off a 14-1 run to open up a 20-point lead. Stout did not score a second-half field goal until 10:52 remained in the game. In fact, they were just 5-for-24 from the field after halftime, compared to 12-for-25 before the break. Whitewater's Cortney Kumerow led all players with 18 points and 10 rebounds and three other Warhawks joined her as double digit scorers. Whitewater out-rebounded the Devils, 43-26, including a 26-14 edge in the second half. Both teams posted goose eggs from three in the second half, combining to miss all 13 attempts. Overall, the teams shot a combined 6-for-29 from beyond the arc, just over 17 percent. | Story and Stats

SCOUTING UW-SUPERIOR (4-1, 1-0 WIAC): Superior is coming off one of the greater upsets we have seen in a while, as they defeated third-ranked UW-Stevens Point, 70-65. After winning two games to open the season, the Yellowjackets lost, 77-65, to University of Minnesota-Duluth, in a game they coined the "Border Battle". Then Superior added a win at Northwestern before topping the Pointers on Saturday. Sally Linzmeier leads the team in both scoring (18 ppg) and rebounding (7.2 ppg). She also leads the team in steals and is second in assists. Deandra Vavra is pitching in 12.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, and leads the team with 20 assists. Connie Urmanski leads the team in minutes played and is averaging 10.8 points per game, but has started the season with a cold shooting clip (14-of-54). She has done a lot of her damage from the free throw line, shooting over 91 percent (21-of-23). | 2012-13 Statistics

SUPERIOR'S LAST TIME OUT: The Yellowjackets WIAC opener could not have gone better, as they were able to complete a comeback victory over third-ranked UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, on their home court. Trailing by six points in the second half, Superior made key shots down the stretch and got 22 points from Sally Linzmeier, to topple the Pointers. Brooke Allen had 21 points and 12 boards for Stevens Point, but their team shooting percentage was just 37.5 percent, 23.5 from beyond the arc. | Story and Stats

THE SERIES: Stout leads the series, 47-30. The Blue Devils have won three of the last five, eight of the last 10, and are 24-2 against Superior since 2000.

LAST TIME THEY MET (Feb. 1, 2012): Whitney Rawdon scored a bucket, picked up a steal and made two free throws in the final minute of the game to break a 56-all tie as UW-Stout defeated UW-Superior, 60-56, at Johnson Fieldhouse. After coming back from a 27-23 halftime deficit, Stout held as much as an eight point lead through the second half, only to see the Yellowjackets come back to tie the game at 56-56 at 1:18. Rawdon, who would score a total of five points, slashed to the basket after a pair of Stout misses to give Stout a 58-56 lead with a minute left to play. Fifteen seconds later, Rawdon made a defensive stop with a steal under the Superior basket. The Blue Devils did lose the ball on a turnover, but Stout got another shot at it when Katelynne Folkers pulled down a rebound. Rawdon was fouled away from the ball as the Blue Devils made their way down court and she drained both free throws to give Stout the final four point lead. The Yellowjackets missed a pair of jumpers in the final 10 seconds. Bethany Reyzer led Stout in scoring, dropping in 13 points. Kayla Windt finished the night with 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. | Story and Stats

SCOUTING UW-PLATTEVILLE (2-5, 0-1 WIAC): Platteville opened their season 2-1, but have since lost four straight including their conference opener against UW-River Falls. Platteville travels to Eau Claire, Wednesday, Dec. 5. Updates following that game will come Thursday.

THE SERIES: Stout leads the series, 42-19. That winning percentage of .689 is Stout's highest against any WIAC opponent. The Blue Devils have won four of the last five, nine of the last 10, and are 12-1 against Platteville in the last 13.

LAST TIME THEY MET (Feb. 4, 2012): Freshmen Brea Boomer, Bethany Reyzer, and Courtney Hayford led UW-Stout to a 67-61 win over UW-Platteville at Bo Ryan Court. Boomer had a big game - in particular a big first half. The 5-8 post player scored eight points over the first six minutes of the game to put Stout up early, then contributed off the boards throughout the rest of the afternoon. Boomer finished witha  team-high 14 points and racked up her first collegiate double-double by pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds, 10 of them defensive boards. Reyzer scored in double digits for her third consecutive game as the Blue Devils won their second conference game and their second consecutive game. Reyzer finished with 11 points and a pair of assists. Hayford finished the afternoon by contributing 10 points. Whitney Rawdon finished with nine points and Kayla Windt had five steals. | Story and Stats

TRADITION: In 10 of the last 13 seasons, Stout has been either the first or second leading scoring team in the WIAC. In the final team standings, Stout has finished no lower in the conference than fourth in 11 of the last 14 years. Last year broke the trend, however, as they finished second to last in scoring and eight out of nine teams in the conference standings with a final league record of 3-13.

JOHNSON FIELDHOUSE: The “cozy confines of Johnson Fieldhouse” has proven to be quite an advantage for the Blue Devils. Since the 2000-01 season, Stout has posted a 119-33 (.788) record at home. In conference games at Johnson Fieldhouse since 2000-01, Stout has a 73-25 (.726) record. Throw in the conference tournament games, and Stout has an 87-25 (.784) overall record against WIAC opponents at home.

THE COACHES: UW-Stout: Mark Thomas (425-248) is in his 26th year as the coach of the Blue Devils. Thomas has led his teams to 10 national playoff berths, nine times in the NCAA. A six-time WIAC coach of the year, the Blue Devils have won five conference titles and four conference tournament championships. His teams have twice been to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Thomas is the first WIAC coach to have reached 400 career wins. Thomas also has the most wins of any Stout basketball coach, either men's or women's. Dwain Mintz coached the men's basketball program for 27 years and compiled a 385-280 record. | UW-Superior: Don Mulhern, Ph.d, is in his seventh season as the head coach of the Yellowjackets and in his 25th season as a college basketball coach. After struggling in previous years, Mulhern turned his squad in the right direction, coaching them to their best season since he took over. They ended the 2011-12 season with 12 wins and qualified for the WIAC Tournament for the first time since 2004. Mulhern is currently on the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee. | UW-Platteville: Megan Wilson is in her third season as UW-Platteville's head women's basketball coach. Wilson has been accustomed to winning, as her impressive playing career includes two high school state championships and an NCAA national championship. She attended UW-Stevens Point where she captained the 2002 national champion sqaud.

THE ROAD TO 400 WINS: Mark Thomas' first collegiate win came the second game of his first season when his Blue Devils, which had won only two games over the previous two years, defeated Mt. Senario, 73-44, in November, 1987. The wins came more often after that. Thomas got his 50th win, Feb. 28, 1991, 71-60, over Cardinal Stritch. The 100th win came Jan. 10, 1994, an 80-59 win over UM-Morris. No. 200 came at UW-River Falls, a 78-74 victory on Jan. 5, 2000. Thomas' 300th win came in overtime, a 76-68 decision over UW-Stevens Point, Jan. 29, 2005. Thomas' 400th win came at UW-Stevens Point, a 90-76 decision, Feb. 3, 2010.
