0-8 Stout's combined record against this week's opponents in the past two seasons.
THE BLUE DEVILS (6-1, 0-1 WIAC): The Blue Devils suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, but are still off to their best start to a season since 2005-06, when they began 11-1. The Blue Devils have won three of their games by at least 30 points, and their average margin of victory is more than 18 points. Despite scoring a season-low three points against UW-Whitewater, Chris Hortman continues to lead the team in scoring, but not by much. His 13.1 points per game average barely edges Alex Oman's 13, and Jarvis Ragland adds 11.9 points into the mix each game. The three of them have taken 57 percent of Stout's field goal attempts thus far, and are shooting a combined .408 clip from the field (97-of-238). Coincidentally, Oman and Hortman are both exactly 34-of 85 from the field through seven games. 6-8 center Josh Kosloske kickstarted his season with a 16-point, 12-rebound performance in the opener, and has been mopping up down low all season. He grabbed a game-high 10 against Whitewater and is now averaging a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game. Additionally, he is shooting an outstanding 78 percent from the field (25-of-32) and leads the team with nine blocks.  Aaron Jenny, who posted career highs in points and rebounds against Dubuque, has started all seven games and averages 7.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Erik Olson has directed the offense from the point guard position, dishing out just under six assists per game as he eyes Stout's all-time career assists record. | 2012-13 Statistics

CHASING THE RECORD BOOKS: Erik Olson has been climbing the Stout leaderboard in assists and recently passed Brian Ellingson to move into second place all time with 356. With two more assists this year, Olson will tie Jeremy Leibfried's record total of 358, meaning three more dimes will make Olson the all-time career assists leader in the Stout record books. Olson finished the 2011-12 season with 108 assists, averaging 5.4 per contest. So far this year, Olson is averaging 5.7 per game.

REBOUNDING THIS WEEK: Lately, rebounding has not come easy for Stout against this week's opponents. Over the past two seasons, Stout is being out-rebounded by Superior and Platteville by a combined margin of 59 rebounds. In the eight games combined, Stout has won the rebounding margin only twice, with one of those being a slim one-rebound advantage. Superior holds a +31 margin over Stout, while Platteville owns a +28 advantage, the two largest margins by any team over Stout in that two-year window. More importantly, Stout lost all eight of those games.

STOUT'S LAST TIME OUT: UW-Stout was dealt their first loss fo the season, Saturday night, but did not go down without a fight. The Blue Devils hung with third-ranked Whitewater until the waning seconds of the game, as the defending national champions left Johnson Fieldhouse with a 64-58 win. The dagger came with 15 seconds to go with Stout trailing by two. Whitewater's KJ Evans was able to hit a three while also drawing a foul, giving him the rare oppurtunity for a four-point play. He was able to hit the free-throw as well to put Whitewater up by 6. The first half was a slugfest, as neither team was really able to get going offensively and at the break the score was tied, 23-23. Both teams shot under 30 percent for the half. In the second half, the Blue Devils shot much better, hitting 48 percent of their shots and 50 percent of their three-point attempts. However, free throws proved to be an issue for the team, as they shot only 10-19 for the half and 12-21 overall. Stout got off to a fast start in the second half, going on a 9-2 run in the first four minutes. The Blue Devils managed to retain the lead for the better part of the half, until a 9-0 run by Whitewater put the Warhawks up, 49-45 with under four to go. Stout would cut the lead to one on an Alex Oman three, but the Warhawks would lead the rest of the game. Rash led the Blue Devils on a late charge, scoring eight of his 14 points in the final three minutes of the game, including two clutch threes. Oman and Rash each scored 14 points for Stout, while Josh Kosloske led the team with 10 rebounds. Erik Olson had all five of Stout's assists, as he moved within two of the all-time Stout assists record. | Story and Stats

SCOUTING UW-SUPERIOR (2-4, 0-1 WIAC): The Yellowjackets are coming off a 12-14 season in which they went 8-8 in conference play. They lose, however, their leading scorer and head coach from last year, and are off to an unimpressive start thus far. They have wins against UMAC members Northland and St. Scholastica, with each win being followed by two consecutive losses. The bright spot on their roster is Jarrod Peterson, who is averaging 20 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, both team highs. He already has games of 25, 25, and 26 points and recorded a double-double (25 pts, 11 reb) against St. Scholastica. Bronson Byrne is averaging 13 points and four boards per game and leads the team with 11 blocks. Brendan Bauer is pitching in nine points and six boards per contest. | 2012-13 Statistics

SUPERIOR'S LAST TIME OUT: Superior kicked off their WIAC schedule at home against UW-Stevens Point, Saturday and gave the undefeated Pointers all they could handle. Following a frustrating loss to Northwestern College, Superior put forth a valiant effort, but fell, 79-68. The Yellowjackets took a lead late in the first half and held it for much of the second, but Stevens Point hit the shots when it mattered and Tyler Tillema's 34 points were too much for Superior. With eight minutes left in the game, the Pointers held just a one point, 54-53 lead, but they closed the game with a 25-15 run to avoid the upset. Jarrod Peterson scored 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting while Bronson Byrne added 13 points and three blocks. | Story and Stats

THE SERIES: Stout leads the series, 114-101. Superior has won the past four meetings, but each team has won five of the past 10 matchups.

LAST TIME THEY MET (Feb. 1, 2012): Despite a career-high 28 points from Alex Oman, Stout fell to Superior, 75-64, in their most recent meeting as Superior completed their season sweep of the Blue Devils. UW-Superior slowly broke open the evenly-contested matchup to conter Oman's outstanding offensive performance. With the score tied 34-34 at halftime, the Yellowjackets gradually built a lead that runed into double digits midway through the half. Stout managed to cut away at the lead around the five minute mark, pulling to within 68-62 at 3:58, but a pair of free throws by Ben Aalfs and a 3-pointer by Trent Davis built the Yellowjacket lead back to 11. Oman was 10-for-19 from the floor and landed 3-of-7 three-pointers. He made 5-of-7 free throws. Jarvis Ragland scored 12 points for the Blue Devils. The Yellowjackets' Aalfs scored 26 points and had 12 rebounds, while Bronson Byrne added 12 points. | Story and Stats

SCOUTING UW-PLATTEVILLE (6-1, 1-0 WIAC): Platteville is coming off a 74-48 win over UW-River Falls in their conference opener. They will host UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday night. Updates after that game will come Thursday.

THE SERIES: Platteville leads the series, 76-46. The Pioneers have won 10 of the past 12 and are 4-1 in the past five meetings.

LAST TIME THEY MET (Feb. 4, 2012): In their second meeting of the 2011-12 season, UW-Stout had a pair of players in double figures, but UW-Platteville had four players scoring more than 10 points en route to a 70-59 win over Stout at Bo Ryan Court. The Pioneers were led by senior Brett Stangel, who scored 20 points to pace UW-Platteville. He was joined in double digits by freshman Jake Manning and sophomore Chas Cross, who each scored 14 and junior Rob Stallion added 10. Stallion also had a game-high nine rebounds in the win. The Blue Devils were led by Jarvis Ragland and Erik Olson, who scored 15 and 12 points, respectively. After a hot-shooting first half, where the Pioneers shot 50 percent from the field, they held just a two-point lead at the half. To lead the attack for the Pioneers was Manning, who had 12 of his first 14 in the first 20 minutes. The Blue Devils started the second half with a 7-2 spurt to take a 34-31 lead with 16:17 left to play. The contest remained close and back and forth until the fourth tie of the game when Stallion put the Pioneers ahead 44-42 with 11:38 to go and for rest of the contest.  UW-Stout came back to cut the deficit to two, again, 47-45 with 7:10 to go. Then, the Pioneers answered with an 11-2 run that ended any chances for a UW-Stout comeback. UW-Platteville spread the scoring around as Eric Gerber made a layup, Brett Stangel hit his third 3 pointer of the game, Rob Stallion made two free throws and Matt Weik knocked down a jumper. Later in the half, the Pioneers stretched the lead to as much as 15 to close out the contest. | Story and Stats
