THIS WEEK BY THE NUMBERS
.952 Whitney Rawdon's free throw percentage in her past 3 games. (9-10 vs. PV, 6-6 vs. SUP, 5-5 vs. WW)
5-0 Stout's record this year with a positive rebound margin.
0-4 Stout's record this year with a negative rebound margin.
.500 Platteville's FG% on Saturday, the second-highest by a Stout opponent in two years (.533, Platteville, 2/4/2012).
THE BLUE DEVILS (5-4, 1-2 WIAC): Stout just continues to keep us guessing. Week in and week out, we are never quite sure what to expect from this young Blue Devil squad. After an encouraging win against a hot UW-Superior team, Stout left Bo Ryan Court with a 70-65 loss to a less than impressive Platteville squad. The Blue Devils have mixed a 55-point win and a 40-point loss into their nine games, which, win or lose, have been decided by an average of 21 points. Senior Whitney Rawdon's scoring streak lost some momentum, Saturday, after an 0-for-6 shooting performance from the field. She did remain hot at the line, however, scoring all nine of her points from the charity stripe on 10 attempts, and has now made 20 of her last 21 free throw attempts. She remains the team's leading scorer (13.4 ppg) and rebounder (6.3 rpg), and ranks inside the top 10 in the WIAC in both categories. Brea Boomer is pitching in 11.3 points per game and Katelynne Folkers is offering 9.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest. Both of them scored 11 points in the loss to Platteville on Saturday. Sami Schoeder turned in her second 20-point performance of the season on Saturday, aided by 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. She now averages 9.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game and remains Stout's most lethal three-point weapon. Five Blue Devils are averaging at least four rebounds per game as they are out-rebounding their opponents, 43-40 on average. | 2012-13 Statistics

STOUT'S LAST TIME OUT: UW-Platteville took advantage at the free throw line in the second half and went on to defete UW-Stout, 70-65, Saturday. The Pioneers made 20-of-26 second half free throws to overcome a 26-23 halftime deficit. Platteville connected on only 1-of-7 first half charity shots. The Blue Devils led through the entire first half and did not give up the lead until five minutes into the second half. The game was tied nine times in the second half until Platteville took the lead with 8:49 left in the game. The Pioneers' Liz Lawinger led all scorers with 22 points. Kaitlyn Pleau came off the bench to add 14 points. Stout got 20 points from Sami Schoeder and 11 points from both Brea Boomer and Katelynne Folkers. Stout shot 30.5 percent from the floor (18-59), 22.8 percent from three-point range (5-22) and 70.6 percent from the line (24-34). The Pioneers shot 50 percent from the floor (23-46), 30 percent from beyond the arc (3-10) and 63.6 percent from the line (21-33). | Story and Stats

SCOUTING UW-RIVER FALLS (6-2, 1-1 WIAC): River Falls opened their season with a loss and enter this week coming off a loss, but sandwiched six straight wins in between. They were steamrolling their opponents through the end of November, reeling off four straight wins by at least 17 points. They slowed down slightly once they hit conference play, and ended their winning streak with a 62-47 loss to Oshkosh on Saturday. They defeated Platteville by 11 in their first WIAC contest of the year and have played one less league game than the Blue Devils. Brittany Gregorich has been the Falcons' workhorse thus far, averaging over 30 minutes per game. She leads the team - and the WIAC - with 8.1 rebounds per game, and averages a healthy 13.3 points per contest. She shoots nearly .500 from the field and also leads the team with 4.13 assists per outing. Tess Lueders leads the team in scoring (14.4 ppg) and has games of 21 and 29 points already. She has led the team in scoring the past two games, scoring 17 and 15 points against Viterbo and Oshkosh, respectively. Brooke Lauritzen adds 10 points and six boards per game and, standing at 6-2, leads the league by a mile with 16 blocks. Richell Mehus and Holly Riesselman add 5.6 and 4.6 rebounds per game, respectively, to a team that boasts a conference-best +10.5 rebounding margin. | 2012-13 Statistics

RIVER FALLS' LAST TIME OUT: The Falcons snapped their six-game winning streak when they absorbed a 62-47 home loss delivered by UW-Oshkosh, Saturday at Karges Center. A 7-for-28 shooting clip in the second half let the Titans break open what was a close game throughout the first half. Tess Lueders scored 15 points to lead the Falcons in scoring. | Story and Stats

THE SERIES: River Falls leads the series, 41-38. The Falcons have taken the last four matchups, but Stout holds a 10-5 edge in the past 15 meetings. There is also some recent playoff history between the two clubs, having met twice in the WIAC Tournament in the past six seasons. Stout took both meetings, in 2007 and 2010.

LAST TIME THEY MET (Jan. 25, 2012): Bethany Reyzer sliced her way to 18 points but it wouldn't be enough for UW-Stout as the Blue Devils dropped a 73-47 decision at then-25th ranked UW-River Falls. Reyzer scored 15 points in the second half and finished with a collegiate-best 18 points, connecting on 7-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-9 from 3-point range. But Stout, who was still seeking that elusive first conference win, didn't have enough for the Falcons' multiple pronged attack. The Falcons had four players in double digits, led by Alise Holst's 19 points. Nikki Guhr added 16 points, Maranda Dohrn racked up a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds and Jessie Van Whye came off the bench to score 10 points. The Falcons started the game off on a 10-0 advantage over the first four minutes of the game. Reyzer put Stout on the board at 15:03 with a 3-pointer, her only first half points. River Falls got into a double-digit lead midway through the first period and never relinquished it in the half, carrying a 29-17 halftime lead. Reyzer cut the lead to nine points early in the second half with her second 3-pointer of the night, but that would be as close as Stout would get the rest of the way. | Story and Stats

TRADITION: In 10 of the last 13 seasons, Stout has been either the first or second leading scoring team in the WIAC. In the final team standings, Stout has finished no lower in the conference than fourth in 11 of the last 14 years. Last year broke the trend, however, as they finished second to last in scoring and eight out of nine teams in the conference standings with a final league record of 3-13.

JOHNSON FIELDHOUSE: The “cozy confines of Johnson Fieldhouse” has proven to be quite an advantage for the Blue Devils. Since the 2000-01 season, Stout has posted a 120-33 (.784) record at home. In conference games at Johnson Fieldhouse since 2000-01, Stout has a 74-25 (.747) record. Throw in the conference tournament games, and Stout has an 88-25 (.779) overall record against WIAC opponents at home.

THE COACHES: UW-Stout: Mark Thomas (426-249) is in his 26th year as the coach of the Blue Devils. Thomas has led his teams to 10 national playoff berths, nine times in the NCAA. A six-time WIAC coach of the year, the Blue Devils have won five conference titles and four conference tournament championships. His teams have twice been to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Thomas is the first WIAC coach to have reached 400 career wins. Thomas also has the most wins of any Stout basketball coach, either men's or women's. Dwain Mintz coached the men's basketball program for 27 years and compiled a 385-280 record. | UW-River Falls: Cindy Holbrook is in her 13th season as the head coach of the Falcons. Last year, Holbrook led River Falls to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 1994-95 season, and, at 21-7, their most wins since the 1988-89 season when they had 23. Holbrook spent her collegiate playing career at UW-Stout, where she occupies the record books as Cindy Hovet. She is among Stout's greatest in many categories and holds the record for most points in a game (39). She was inducted into the Stout Hall of Fame in 2005.

CONFERENCES: Stout and UW-River Falls are both members of the nine-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Superior and UW-Whitewater. Marian University is a member of the Northern Athletic Conference.

UP NEXT: Stout will round the calendar year with a pair of games on their winter break trip in Austin, Texas. They play University of Concordia Texas, Saturday, Dec. 29, and round out their trip with a game against East Texas Baptist University, Sunday, Dec. 30.
