MILWAUKEE (November 16, 2012) - The first five minutes of their 2012-13 season looked promising, but the next 35 did not go as planned.
The Blue Devils (0-1) hung tight early but fell, 88-48, to DePauw University (1-0), Friday night at Wisconsin Lutheran's Tournament.
Through the first five minutes of the game, Stout never trailed by more than three points.
Whitney Rawdon (Sr, Eau Claire) added five points as the Blue Devils kept the fourth-ranked Tigers in their sights.
But then DePauw put the pedal to the medal and did not let up. The Tigers' 10-9 lead turned into a 22-10 lead five minutes later and was stretched to a 45-12 halftime margin.
After halftime, the lead increased as if 33 points was not a comfortable enough cushion. DePauw started the half with a 37-10 run, where they capped their lead at 60 before Stout put together a 26-6 run to end the contest.
Brea Boomer (So, Grand Portage, Minn.) led the Blue Devils in scoring with 16 points, while
Katelynne Folkers (So, Fall Creek) chipped in 11. Rawdon led the team with six rebounds.
The 40-point defeat was Stout's worst season-opening loss in 33 years. During the 1979-80 season, the Blue Devils opened with a 78-37 loss to River Falls.
The Blue Devils will face either Hamline University or Wisconsin Lutheran tomorrow to wrap up the tournament.
