STEVENS POINT (May 6, 2011) - UW-Stevens Point tallied 33 total hits over two games as the Pointers hit their way past UW-Stout in a doubleheader, 10-1, 12-3, at University Field, Friday.

The Pointers racked up 16 hits in the first game and 17 hits in the second game as they kept their hopes alive for a top seed in the WIAC Tournament next weekend.

The Blue Devils (12-26, 6-16 WIAC) were no slouches when it came to hits. Stout put up seven hits in the first game and nine in the second game, but had trouble getting runners home. The Pointers turned three double plays in game one and a pair in game two. In game one, Pointer pitcher Scott Williams recorded nine strikeouts, with eight of those coming in the opening six innings.

In the opener, Stevens Point (28-8,18-4 WIAC) connected on four doubles and two home runs and took a 6-0 lead before Stout got their only run of the game in in the seventh inning. Ben Yaucher (Jr, Janesville) reached on a two-out double and came home on Jake Duske's (Jr, Montrose, Minn) single up the middle.

In the nightcap, Carter Vogt (So, Buffalo, Minn) pitched three innings of shutout ball and Stout held a 3-1 lead after the fourth inning. Jesse Brockman (So, Eau Claire) hit a lead off home run in the fourth inning and Brian Giebel (Sr, River Falls) had a two run double in the fifth inning.

But the game started to unravel for Vogt and the Blue Devils in the bottom of the inning as the Pointers scored three runs to the lead, then rolled up six runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a commanding 10-3 lead.

Brockman went 4-for-8 for the Blue Devils over the two games, with two hits in each of the games. Greg Smolinski (Sr, Menasha) was 3-for-4 in the second game.

The series is scheduled to conclude Saturday, May 7 at 12 p.m.
