MENOMONIE (May 2, 2011) - UW-Superior got their runs in bunches as the Yellowjackets swept UW-Stout, 13-6, 18-8, in the Blue Devils' final home games of the season Monday at Nelson Field.
In game one with the game knotted at 6 apiece, the Yellowjackets (12-23, 7-13) rolled up seven runs in the eighth inning.
In game two, Stout led 3-2 before Superior turned up the bats, getting seven runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth inning. The Yellowjackets finished the game off with two runs in the bottom of the seventh when Mitch Loegering hit a two-run double to end the game on the 10-run rule.
It's not as if Stout didn't have any clout with their bats throughout both games. The Blue Devils (12-22, 6-14) pounded out 11 hits in the first game and 12 in the second. But their defense did them in at times, collecting three errors in game one and five in game two.
The Yellowjackets' Rhett Williamson went 5-for-9 on the day with five runs scored and five RBI.
Stout will play at Hamline University, Tuesday, May 3, then close out the season at UW-Stevens Point, Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7.
