MENOMONIE, Wis. (May 1, 2011) - Following a loss in the opener, Stout's bats heated up in the second game, and Carter Vogt (So, Buffalo, Minn.) threw a complete game to grab his first win as a starter.  Stout defeated UW-Superior 13-3 after dropping the first contest, 6-3, on a cold, windy Sunday afternoon at Nelson Field.

After a quiet first three innings, UW-Superior (10-23, 5-13 WIAC) delivered the first real damage in the bottom of the fourth inning.  After a leadoff single by Mike Labelle, Blue Devil pitcher Cory Hedeen (Jr, Cannon Falls, Minn.) retired the next two batters.  The Yellowjackets, however, rallied with two outs to drive in Labelle, and score the next three batters, taking a four run lead.

The Blue Devils (12-20, 6-12 WIAC) added a run in the sixth on a Matt Guida (So, Hawley, Minn.) sacrifice fly, and added their third run in the eighth when Brian Giebel (Sr, River Falls) scored after leading off the inning by reaching on an error.  Mike Swanson picked up the win for Superior, going eight innings, allowing just five hits and two earned runs as he struck out four batters.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Blue Devils filled up the stat sheet on offense while Vogt took care of the rest.  Giebel scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning after he singled to lead off the game.  Guida then drove in Jesse Brockman (So, Eau Claire) to put Stout up, 2-0, after one inning.

Jon Schoch (Jr, Chippewa Falls) led off the second inning with a single, and was later drove in by Giebel.  Schoch then drove in the lone run in the fifth inning with a double, scoring Ben Yaucher (So, Janesville).  Schoch finished the game 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs.

Brandon O'Connell (Sr, Elk Mound) drove in Brockman to start the scoring in the sixth inning with a single.  The next batter, Guida, cleared the bases with a two-RBI double to right center to grab an 8-1 lead.  In the top of the seventh, Giebel hit a three-run home run to give Stout a 10 run lead, potentially ending the game in seven innings.  However, Superior added an unearned run in the bottom half, extending the game into the eighth.

Jake Duske (Jr, Montrose, Minn.) delivered the final blow on a two-RBI single to put Stout up by 11.  Vogt finished off the game in eight innings, allowing nine hits and two earned runs.

Giebel finished the game 3-for-5, including four RBI's and three runs.  Guida also drove recorded three hits, driving in three Stout baserunners.

The teams will meet again, tomorrow, May 2, at Nelson Field.  The first game is scheduled to start at noon.
