MENOMONIE (April 22, 2011) - UW-Oshkosh cooled off UW-Stout on a cold, blustery afternoon as the Titans swept a pair of games, 6-1, 8-5, in the Blue Devils' final home games of the season.

The Titans' Luke Westphal kept Stout (10-18, 5-11) in check in the opener, recording 16 strikeouts and not allowing a Stout runner past second base until the ninth inning.

The teams played to a 1-1 deadlock after Oshkosh (20-6, 9-5) scored in the second and Stout answered in the third. But the Titans broke loose for five runs in the fourth inning. Bobby Kachel and Nolan Fadnes each had one RBI and Tyler Kamps drove in two runs with a double to left field.

The Blue Devils threatened in the ninth inning, attempting to take advantage of back-to-back errors on the first two batters and an ensuing wild pitch to put runners on second and third. But Westphal retired the next three batters, two on strikeouts to secure the win.

Westphal allowed four hits and no earned runs. Cory Hedeen (Jr, Cannon Falls, Minn) took the loss for Stout, striking out four, but giving up all six earned runs.

In the second game, Oshkosh pitcher Troy Mrkvicka worked the final seven innings to get the win, allowing six hits and two runs, while striking out two.

Oshkosh opened the game with a pari of runs, then added a third in the second inning. Stout pulled to within one run when Brian Giebel (Sr, River Falls) hit a two-run double, but the Titans returned in the third inning with a three-run attack to take a 6-2 lead.

Stout's Ben Yaucher (Jr, Janesville) and Jon Schoch (Jr, Chippewa Falls) drove in runs in the third to cut the lead to 6-4. Oshkosh added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to jump out, 8-4. Stout's Brandon O'Connell (Sr, Elk Mound) had a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning for Stout's final run.

Giebel, Schoch and Greg Smolinski (Sr, Menasha) each were 2-for-4 in the game. Dan Britts (So, Nekoosa) worked eight inning, allowing eight runs, seven earned. He struck out two.

Eight of the nine Oshkosh batters got a hit and eight different batters recorded an RBI, with none collecting more than one.

Stout turns to non-conference play Tuesday, April 26 when they travel to Winona, Minn., to face St. Mary's University, then will head to UW-Superior, Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1.
