DUBUQUE, Iowa (April 21, 2011) - After dropping a 4-3 decision in the opener, UW-Stout came storming back to gain a split with Loras College by taking a 7-2 second game win Thursday.
In the nightcap,
Shanen Stainer (Fr, Menomonie) delivered a two-run home run in a three-run third inning and, after Loras cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the inning,
Kelly Conway (Sr, La Crescent, Minn) smacked a three-run home run in a four-run fourth inning to widen the gap to the final score of 7-2.
Tara Kimberly (Jr, Baldwin) picked up the win as she and
Bri Conrad (Jr, South St. Paul, Minn) combined for five strikeouts.
In the opener, much of the scoring came in the seventh inning. Stout (14-14) strung together hits from
Sammy Peterson (Jr, Hudson),
Erika Wolf (Fr, Elmwood),
Hannah Sweet (Fr, Elk River, Minn) and Conway gave Stout three runs in the seventh for a 3-2 lead, but Loras came back to win the game in the bottom of the inning.
Stout is scheduled to play a conference game at UW-Platteville, Friday, April 22 at noon.
