Stout closes trip with split against Augsburg

PHOENIX, Ariz. (March 18, 2011)
- For the third straight day, UW-Stout won the second half of a doubleheader, as they defeated Augsburg College 6-2 after dropping the first game, 12-6, Friday afternoon at Gene Autry Park in Phoenix.

In the first game of the day, Brian Giebel (Sr, River Falls) and Matt Guida (So, Hawley, Minn.) each finished 2-for-3.  Giebel recorded a single and a triple, while Guida collected a single and a double, including three runs batted in.  Carter Vogt (So, Buffalo, Minn.) suffered his first loss of the season.

In Stout's second game of the day and also their final game of their spring break trip, Cory Hedeen (So, Cannon Falls, Minn.) led the charge with six solid innings of pitching.  Hedeen struck out two batters on the way to his first win of the season. Greg Smolinski (Sr, Menasha) went 2-4, driving in two runs off a single and a triple.  Jeff Huth (Jr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.)  recorded two singles in two at-bats, in addition to a sac fly. John Ewald (Fr, Maplewood, Minn.) picked up the save for the Blue Devils.

Stout will next return to action on Saturday, April 2, when they travel to UW-La Crosse.
