UW-Stout 78, UW-Superior 66
SUPERIOR (February 9, 2011) - UW-Stout grabbed a lead five minutes into the game and never looked back, blowing Superior out of their own gym, 78-66, Wednesday night at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
The win marks Stout's second straight conference victory, their first conference win streak of the season and is their first WIAC victory on the road.
The Blue Devils (9-14, 4-10 WIAC) did grab a lead two and a half minutes in, but immediately relinquished it.  Superior took a four-point lead after that, which was their largest of the game.
Kimmy Keehr (So, Spring Valley) made a layup to tie the game at 12, and on the next possession, dished it to
Whitney Rawdon (So, Eau Claire) who layed it in for a two-point lead.
With 10 minutes to go in the first half, Stout began to lay into the Yellowjackets (8-14, 2-11 WIAC).  The Blue Devils went on a 7-0 run fueled by four points from
Tricia VanVreede (Sr, Little Chute).  Minutes later, Stout closed out the half on a 9-0 run, including a three pointer from Keehr, who finished the game with a career-high 15 points.
Five minutes into the second half, Stout stretched their lead to 16 points, which turned out to be their largest of the game.  The Yellowjackets were able to cut the lead down to seven points with six minutes to play, but clutch free throw shooting by the Blue Devils earned them the victory.  Stout made 10 of their next 11 free throws to grab an insurmountable 13-point lead with less than a minute to play.
Rawdon finished with a team-high 16 points and seven boards.
Kayla Windt (So, Pence) matched Keehr with 15 points, and VanVreede finished with 13 and seven rebounds.  Superior's Bri Davis led all players with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Stout will return to action this weekend when they travel to UW-Platteville, who they defeated 80-70 earlier this season.
