MENOMONIE (December 10, 2011) - UW-Platteville came from behind in the final minutes of the game to snatch the victory from UW-Stout's hands Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils (3-7, 0-3) held as much as a 10 point lead with 13 mintues left in the second half, only to see the Pioneers (4-6, 1-2) pick away at the lead, pull to within one point on Claire Poad's 3-pointer at 2:53 and take the lead, 53-51, when Liz Lawinger racked up the hoop and the harm with1:46 left.
Lawinger and Poad each added a pair of free throws down the final stretch and Platteville had their first conference win of the season.
The Blue Devils opened the game on a roll, shooting out to an 8-0 lead five minutes into the game. But Platteville came back to tie the game at 12 at 9:18. The Blue Devils assumed control and jumped out to a nine point lead with three minutes left in the half and carried a 27-21 lead into the locker room.
Stout maintained the lead through most of the second half. Platteville's Lawinger scored 14 of her game-high 18 points in the second half. Rachel Cropp scored all eight of her points in the second half. Kim Wellnitz added 12 points, nine in the first half.
Rebounding played a key in the second half comeback by the Pioneers. Platteville outboarded Stout, 45-40, on the night, but held a 26-16 advantage in the second half.
Stout was led by 
Sami Schoeder (So, Durand) with 16 points, with nine of her points coming in the first half. 
Whitney Rawdon (Jr, Eau Claire) had nine rebounds, but was held to two in the second half.
Stout will host UW-River Falls, Wednesday, Dec. 14 in a Playing for the Cure game. Before the game, Bob and Steve's BP Amoco Shops, on behalf of the two teams, will make a donation of $12,500 to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation. The donation is funded through BP Fueling Communities.
