MENOMONIE (January 8, 2011) -
Sami Schoeder (Fr, Durand) scored a career-high 31 points, Saturday night as the Blue Devils captured their first conference victory, defeating UW-Platteville 80-70 at Johnson Fieldhouse.
Schoeder, who scored 19 points in the first half, was 11-16 from the field in the game, including 6-9 from beyond the arc. She also led her team with eight rebounds.
Stout (6-8, 1-4 WIAC) scored the first 10 points of the game and had a 13-2 lead after six minutes of play. Platteville (5-9, 1-4) answered with a 6-0 run to pull within five, but the deficit quickly grew back to 11. With four minutes remaining in the first half,
Whitney Rawdon (Fr, Eau Claire) hit a jumper, followed by a three from Schroeder to give Stout a 15-point lead, their largest of the game.
The Blue Devils held a double-digit lead for most of the second half, until the Pioneers put together a run with seven minutes to go. Platteville's Ashley Wolf made four straight free throws to cut the deficit to five points. Schoeder came up clutch with three minutes to go by hitting a three-pointer to turn a five-point lead into an eight-point margin. Stout then connected on free throws in the waning seconds to seal their 10-point victory.
Platteville's Mallory Mau led all players with 12 rebounds and also led her team with 17 points. Stout held the Pioneers to just a .32 shooting percentage from the field, only 27 percent from beyond the arc.
Stout will return to action on Monday, Jan. 10 when they travel to Eau Claire to take on the Blugolds.
