Stout cannot overcome big halftime deficit

UW-Whitewater 69, UW-Stout 53

WHITEWATER (January 29, 2011) - UW-Whitewater took a large halftime lead over UW-Stout, and despite Stout's second-half efforts, took a 69-53 win, Saturday night at Kachel Gym.

UW-Stout (7-13, 2-9) played even with the Warhawks (16-3, 8-2) in the second half, with both teams scoring 31 points, but their 16-point halftime deficit was enough to deliver them their sixth straight conference road loss.

The Warhawks jumped out to a 12-2 lead after forcing seven Stout turnovers in the first five minutes.  Whitewater was able to increase their lead to 16 midway through the first half.  Stout battled back to cut their deficit to nine points with five minutes to go, but allowed a 7-0 run by the Warhawks to end the half trailing by 16.

The Blue Devils were unable to cut into that deficit until six minutes remained in the game.  A three pointer by Kayla Windt (So, Pence) pulled Stout within 12, but it was too little too late as Whitewater cruised the rest of the way.

Stout's woes from the three point line continued tonight.  Following Wednesday's 1-for-18 performance from beyond the arc, the Blue Devils hit just one of 14 attempts tonight.

Dana Thompson led all players with 19 points and six rebounds.  Stout's Tricia VanVreede (Sr, Little Chute) led the team with 12 points.  Whitney Rawdon (Fr, Eau Claire) added 10.

The Blue Devils will return home this Wednesday, Feb. 2 to host the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m. at Johnson Fieldhouse.
