MENOMONIE (January 22, 2011) - UW-Stout kept it close for most of the first half, but River Falls used runs of 17-2 and 17-3 to pull away in the second to capture a 63-44 win, Saturday evening at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils (7-11, 2-7 WIAC) captured the first substantial lead of the game as they took a five-point lead when
Amanda Daleiden (So, Plum City) hit a jumper and a three-pointer on consecutive possessions. Stout held their lead until seven minutes were left in the first half, which is when River Falls (13-5, 5-4 WIAC) started their comback.
The Falcons, trailing 17-15, went on a 17-2 run over the next four minutes, and extended that into a 14-point halftime lead.
Stout tightened up their defense early in the second half, as River Falls did not score in the first six minutes and did not score a field goal in the first eight. Despite the lockdown defense, Stout was unable to cut the lead any closer than seven points due to low percentage shooting of their own.
A 17-3 run by the Falcons gave them a 22-point lead with five minutes to play, and sealed the victory for River Falls.
Tiffany Gregorich led all players with 26 points and seven assists. Alise Holst added 15 for the falcons. Stout's
Tricia VanVreede (Sr, Little Chute) led her team with 11 points and led all players with nine rebounds.
Stout will travel to UW-La Crosse this Wednesday, Jan. 26 to take on the Eagles.
