Big second half run pushes Blugolds over Stout

UW-Eau Claire 71, UW-Stout 50

EAU CLAIRE (January 10, 2011) - UW-Stout led for the majority of the first half, but couldn't hold onto the lead after the break and the Blue Devils were beaten, 71-50, at UW-Eau Claire, Monday.

Stout (6-9, 1-5) carried as much as a six point lead in the first half and led 28-25 at halftime. But the Blugolds (9-5, 3-2) shot out of the locker room and went on a 35-3 run over 12 minutes in the second half half and built up a 25 point lead.

Whitney Rawdon (So, Eau Claire) led Stout's first half charge, netting 12 of her game-high 18 points in the first half.

In a true tale of two halves, Stout shot 36 percent (9-25) in the first half from the floor, but were held to 23 percent (6-26) for the second half and finished the game shooting 29 percent (15-51) for the game.  The Blugolds shot 46 percent in the first half (10-22), 54 percent (15-28) in the second half and finished hitting 50 percent (25-50).

Eau Claire held a huge advantage rebounds, pulling down 45 to Stout's 24.

Hannah Mesick led Eau Claire with 17 points - all in the second half - an dhad 13 rebounds. Leah Rempert came off the bench to score 13 points and Nicole Christianson yanked down 10 rebounds.

The young Blue Devils had their lowest number of turnovers of the season, turning the ball over 14 times, while Eau Claire had 22 turnovers. Stout recorded 14 steals, with Sami Schroeder (Fr, Durand) picking Eau Claire's pocket five times.

Stout will be at UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Jan. 15, then will come home Wednesday, Jan. 19 to host UW-Superior.
