MENOMONIE  (May 4, 2010) - Alison Gray (Fr, St. Cloud, Minn) hit back-to-back home runs in the first game and Kristy Hoffman (Sr, Circle Pines, Minn) finished her collegiate career by matching a school record for strikeouts in a single game as UW-Stout swept Hamline University, 6-2, 11-8, in both team's final game of the season.

Hoffman recorded 12 strikeout to match the mark set twice by Jenni Bostrom during the 2001 season. Hoffman opened the game with five consecutive strikeouts and carried a no-hitter through the first three innings.

In the meantime, the Stout (16-24) offense rolled up eight runs, two in each of the first two innings and four in the third inning and it looked like the Blue Devils would be able to end the game in five innings under the 8-run rule.

But the Pipers (19-19) got to Hoffman with a pair of runs in the fourth inning, then for three runs in the third as Stout committed three errors in the inning. Stout managed to keep the Pipers far enough away to win, but Hamline showed some muscle with three home runs over the final two innings.

Gray was 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored to lead Stout. Jenna Johnson (Sr, Menomonie) was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, including a two-run double in the third inning. Erin Kastner and Jackie Brigl were each 2-for-4 for the Pipers.

In the opener, Gray's three-run home run in the third proved to be enough, but she added an exclamation point with her ninth home run of the season, a solo shot, in the fourth inning. Gray was 2-for-4 with four RBI. Kat Nelson (So, Chippewa Falls) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Johnson was 2-for-3. Bethany Hine was 2-for-4 with a two run double in the seventh inning.
