MENOMONIE (April 7, 2010) - UW-Stout stacked up an early lead in the first game, then held off UW-La Crosse, but the Eagles consistently scored in the second game as the teams split a conference opening series Wednesday at Nelson Field.
The Blue Devils (6-7, 1-1) won the first game, 13-12, but lost the second game, 20-9, in eight innings on the 10-run rule.
In the opener, Stout pounded out 16 hits and ran up a 12-4 lead only to see La Crosse (7-6, 1-1) pound their way back into the game with four runs in the seventh inning and four in the ninth.
Brandon O'Connell (Jr, Elk Mound) was 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and four runs scored to lead Stout's 16-hit attack. Seven Blue Devils had two hits or more in the attack and
