MENOMONIE (April 28, 2010) - UW-Superior overcame a deficit in the first game, then put UW-Stout in a deficit in the second as the Yellowjackets defeated the Blue Devils, 10-8 in 13 innings and 19-6 in seven innings Wednesday at Nelson Field.

In game one, Superior (16-14, 8-8) back-up catcher Jeff Miller hit a two-run home run  to left field in top of 13th inning to give Superior the  win.

Stout (9-20, 4-12) held a 7-3 lead after six innings, but a four-run Superior eighth tied the score. Superior took an 8-7 lead in the 11th on a Sean Cummings RBI single.

Stout tied the score in bottom of the 11th on a Josh Anderson (Jr, Osseo) RBI single to center. Miller's two-run blast came with two outs.

The Blue Devils opened the game with three runs in the first inning, then the two teams played fairly evenly throughout, both scoring a single run in the third and two runs apiece in the sixth. Stout did score a single run in the fifth inning and held the 7-3 lead heading eighth inning behind a strong effort by Chris Andersen (Fr, Wausau) on the hill. Andersen had scattered eight hits throughout the first seven innings until he got in trouble in the eighth inning, A one-out infield error opened the floodgate as Andersen  gave up only one earned run in the inning before being lifted. Andersen, in his longest outing of the season at 7.1 innings, gave up 10 hits and seven runs, but only four earned runs. He struck out four and walked two.

In game two, Superior scored one run in the first inning and five runs in each of the second and third innings to take an 11-0 lead.

The 'Jackets' Brett Olson hit a three-run double in the second and Paul Schlangen hit a grand slam in the third.

Stout staved off the mercy rule with six runs in the sixth inning, keyed by Jake Duske's (Fr, Montrose, Minn) three-run double. Chris Sill (Fr, Wabasha, Minn) had a two-run single in the inning for his first hit of the season.

The Yellowjackets scored six in the top of the seventh as Stout committed three errors in the inning. Rhett Williamson, who had four RBI in the game, hit Stout the hardest in the inning with a two-run single to center field. Stout left runners at the corners in the bottom of the inning in an effort to stave off the 10-run mercy rule.

Stout will be at UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2. Stout returns home to close out the conference schedule May 7-8 when they host UW-Stevens Point.
