MENOMONIE (April 25, 2010) -
Kristy Hoffman (Sr, Circle Pines, Minn) collected two wins and
Alison Gray (Fr, St. Cloud, Minn.) drove in five runs on two homers as Stout went on to beat St. Catherine, 5-0 and 5-4, Sunday at Alumni Field.
In the first game, Hoffman faced three over the minimum as she struck out four - including two in the first inning - and allowed no walks in the contest that saw only three St. Kate players on base.
Gray lifted her fifth home run of the season, a three run shot after
Lacey Joslin (Jr, Sturgeon Lake, Minn) and
Kat Nelson (So, Chippewa Falls) beat out infield hits in the third inning.
The Blue Devils (13-19) added two runs in the sixth inning.
Jenna Johnson (Sr, Menomonie) hit a one out double, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Following an out,
Olivia Schroeder (Fr, Eau Claire) drew a walk. Schroeder stole second and Johnson executed the delayed steal to score from third. Pinch hitter
Morgan Beyer (So, Medford) singled to right field to score Schroeder. Hoffman shut the Wildcats (7-24) down in order in the seventh.
Hoffman pitched five shutout innings in the second game and collected her second win of the day. Hoffman allowed only three hits and again struck out four.
Jamie Olson (Fr, Eau Claire) got the scoring started in the second inning when she hit a two-run homer, driving in
Kelly Conway (Jr, La Crescent, Minn.). Stout added two more in the following inning on Gray's two-run shot down the left field line. The Blue Devils added their fifth run in the fourth inning on a throwing error after Olson beat out an infield single.
Jessica Nicol (Fr, Eau Claire) relieved Hoffman and faced four batters in the fifth inning, keeping the shutout intact. St. Kate's finally got on the board, however, in the sixth. Kayla Bergerson hit a two-run double, and Kelsey Adair and Ann Schmitz each added an RBI before Nicol got out of the inning with a strikeout.
Hoffman came back in the game to finish things off. She ended the day with 12 innings pitched, eight strikeouts, allowed five hits and no runs.
