Platteville takes all four games from Blue Devils

UW-Platteville 11, UW-Stout 10 | UW-Platteville 11, UW-Stout 3

PLATTEVILLE (April 25, 2010) - In a case of near deja vu, the UW-Stout baseball team found themselves on the wrong end of an 11-10 comeback win as UW-Platteville took the first of two conference games Sunday at Kendall Murray Field. The Pioneers completed the four-game sweep with an 11-3 win in the second game.

Just like the day before, Stout (9-18, 4-9) held a lead, only to see the Pioneers (18-13, 8-10) come back to take the win in the final inning, this time in regulation. Stout held a 10-5 lead heading into the sixth inning when the Pioneers tightened the score to 10-7.

The Pioneers knotted the score in the eighth inning with three runs as Axelson hit a one out, solo home run to pull to within two runs. Platteville was then issued three free passes, one on a hit-by-pitch, and the next two via walks. Jason Jacobson singled to left field to drive in two runs.

Stout went down in order in the ninth, and the Pioneers opened their half of the inning with an infield single by Joe Nartowicz, who moved to second on Tyler Jacobson's sacrifice bunt. Axelson drove in the winning run with a single to center field.

Jon Schoch (So, Chippewa Falls) was 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead Stout. Wade Axelson was 3-for-5 with three RBI and Jason Jacobson was 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In the second game, Stout built and early 2-0 lead over the first two innings, only to see the Pioneers score five runs in the bottom of the second inning, then take a 10-3 lead with five more runs in the sixth inning.

Stout scattered eight hits throughout the game, with AJ Yusten (So, Zumbrota, Minn) and Adam Stuessel (Sr, River Falls) each getting two hits.

Alex Siehoff was 3-for-4 for the Pioneers' 12-hit attack with a home run and Axelson was 2-for-4 with his fourth home run of the series.

Stout will host UW-Superior, Wednesday, April 28 at 1 p.m., then will be at UW-Oshkosh, May 1-2.
