Eau Claire sneaks past Stout twice

EAU CLAIRE (April 14, 2010) - UW-Eau Claire took both ends of a conference doubleheader from UW-Stout Wednesday at Gelein Field. The Blugolds won the first game, 4-2, and the second game, 5-4.

Stout (9-15, 0-4) committed five errors in the opening contest as Blue Devil pitcher #Kristy Hoffman (Sr, Circle Pines, Minn) surrendered four runs, but only one was earned. Eau Claire (11-15, 3-1) scored an unearned run in the first inning, then took advantage of two second inning Stout errors to score three runs and jump out front, 4-0.

The Blue Devils did answer back with two runs of their own in the fourth inning when Morgan Beyer (So, Medford) and Kat Nelson (So, Chippewa Falls) delivered RBI singles.

In the nightcap, Stout held a 4-2 lead with single runs in the first and second innings and two runs in the third as Sam Sarna (So, Buffalo, Minn) scored on an error and Erin Okonek (So, Minong) drove in a run.

Eau Claire tied the game on a two-run home run by Becky Kidnie in the sixth inning, then won the game on a one-out sacrifice fly.

Stout will host UW-La Crosse Saturday, April 17 at 1:30 p.m. and UW-Platteville, Sunday April 18 at noon.
