MENOMONIE (April 14, 2010) - UW-Stout scored the game-winning runs in the bottom of the ninth in both halves of a doubleheader to sweep past UW-La Crosse Wednesday at Nelson Field.

In the first game, Stout surrendered a 4-1 lead, allowing the Eagles to tie the game with two runs in the seventh and a single run in the eighth.

Josh Anderson (So, Osseo) hit  a two-out bloop single to right field to drive in Ryan Gilbertson (Sr, River Falls) from second base to score a 5-4 victory in the opener. Gilbertson had reached with a single down the right field line, then advanced to second on Jon Schoch's (So, Chippewa Falls) ground out. Gilbertson was off from second on Anderson's swing of the bat.

Russ Jiskra (Sr, Hudson) started the game, but fell out of the decision when the game was tied in the eighth inning. Jiskra scattered six hits and three runs, before giving way to Nate Hanson (Sr, Bloomington, Minn), who would pick up both wins in relief.

Anderson was 3-for-5 with four RBI in the game, driving a run in the fourth inning, then jacked a two-run home run to left field in the fifth inning.

In the second game, following a one-hour, 22-minute rain delay in the first inning, Stout rallied all the way back from an 8-0 deficit after two innings to win 10-9 when Jake Duske (So, Montrose, Minn) hit a two-run, two-out double to the fence to score Adam Stuessel (Sr, River Falls) and pinch runner Luke Merritt (Fr, Eau Claire).

Stout came into the ninth inning trailing 9-7. With one out, Gilbertson drew a walk, then advanced to second when Schoch's fielder's choice was misplayed. Anderson drew a walk to load the bases. Stuessel reached safely on an error by the third baseman and Gilbertson scored to pull Stout to within one run. Follwowing a strikeout, Duske sent the ball to the left field fence to score both Stuessel and Merritt.

Hanson came on to get the win, allowing only one hit in the top of the ninth. Chris Lammert (So, Merrill) pitched a good game, coming on in relief in the second inning and went seven innings before giving way to Hanson.

Jesse Brockman (Fr, Wrightstown) was 3-for-4 with an RBI and one run. Stuessel had two RBI. Brian Giebel had a solo home run.

Stout will be at Bethel University, Saturday, April 17, then return home Wednesday, April 21 to host UW-Superior at 1 p.m.
