No. 3 Whitewater sweeps Blue Devils

Stout records 12 hits in game one

WHITEWATER (April 10, 2010) - UW-Stout pounded out 12 hits in the first game, but third ranked UW-Whitewater slashed 18 hits and went on to defeat the Blue Devils twice Saturday. The Warhawks won both games in seven innings, winning the first 21-6 and the second 15-3.

The Warhawks (16-1, 4-0) took advantage of four Blue Devil errors over the first four innings and jumped out to an 18-0 lead before Stout rolled up four runs in the fifth inning.

Adam Stuessel (Sr, River Falls) led off the inning with a solo home run. Brian Giebel (Jr, River Falls) drove in two runs with a double and Brandon O'Connell (Jr, Elk Mound) added a run. The Blue Devils (6-9, 1-3) left bases loaded in the sixth inning, then scored twice in the seventh inning on a ground out by Jon Schoch (So, Chippewa Falls) and a sacrifice fly by Stuessel.

Stout took a 1-0 lead in the second game when Jesse Brockman (Fr, Wrightstown) scored on an error. The Warhawks tacked on five runs in the bottom of the inning and Stout pulled to within two runs with two runs of their own in the second. Kyle Reich (Fr, Burlington) hit a sacrifice fly and Stuessel doubled in a run.

Whitewater tallied up five runs in the bottom of the second, then strung together five runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings in a 15 hit attack. Stout was held to five hits.

The teams will meet again Sunday, April 11. Stout will host UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, April 14.
