MENOMONIE (February 20, 2010) - UW-Stout held off a furious UW-Eau Claire rally and the Blue Devils came out with a 65-62 win Saturday in the regular season finale at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils (15-10, 10-6) held as much as a 22 point lead a couple of minutes into the second half and again at the 13 minute mark, but the Blugolds (9-16, 8-8) cut the lead to as little as one point, 63-62, with 11 seconds remaining on a three-point play by Sarah Bingea.

Danielle DeWitt (Sr, Green Bay), who finished with a team-high 17 points, hit two free throws after being fouled on the inbound pass with nine seconds remaining. The Blugolds missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.

DeWitt scored 10 points in the first half as Stout ran out to a 36-21 halftime lead.

But it was the Blugolds' Bingea, Hannah Mesick and Ellen Plendl each had a big second half to spark Eau Claire's run. Bingea and Mesick each finished with 19 points, 13 points in the second half. The 6-foot, 5-inch Plendl had 11 second half points, but, maybe more importantly, eight second half rebounds. Plendl finished the night with 12 points.

Tricia VanVreede (Jr, Little Chute) scored 13 points for the Blue Devils and Julia Hirssig (Sr, Rochester, Minn) added 12 points.

Stout will host UW-River Falls in the quarterfinals of the WIAC tournament Tuesday, Feb. 23.
