MENOMONIE, Wis. (February 10, 2010) - Stout erased a late eight point deficit, but failed to finish the comeback, as UW-Superior handed the Blue Devils a 76-73 loss, Wedensday night at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Yellowjackets (8-14, 3-10) grabbed the first lead, jumping ahead by six after five minutes.  Stout (13-10, 8-6) answered with a 9-0 run and grabbed a three point lead midway through the first half.
Connie Urmanski, who led all players with 19 points, put Superior up by four with 48 seconds remaining, but a
Kim Stokke (Sr, Menomonie) layup followed by a
Megan Maslowski (Sr, Marshfield) jumper tied the game at 36, giving Stout some momentum going into halftime.
The Blue Devils used that momentum to jump out to a lead early in the second half.  Stout's 9-1 run to open the half was sparked by Stokke, who added the first four points.  Superior fought back, however, taking the lead with nine minutes to play in the game, and continued piling on the points until they took a 68-60 lead with two and a half minutes to go.
Stout began mounting their comeback with three points from Stokke, followed later by a three from Maslowski, tying the game at 70 with a minute to go.  Superior's Urmanski delivered the dagger when she hit her sixth three-pointer on the night with 15 seconds to go.
Kelsey Thingvold grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds, 12 of which she got in the first half, and added 15 points.  Stokke led Stout with 17 points and also added six assists.
The win marks the first time Superior has defeated Stout since Feb. 13, 1999, and is their first win at Johnson Fieldhouse since Feb. 11, 1998.
Stout will travel to Platteville this Saturday, Feb. 13, and return home the following Saturday to close out the regular season against UW-Eau Claire.
