Blue Devils take big halftime lead, down Northland

ASHLAND (December 18, 2010) - UW-Stout raced out to a big halftime lead and Tricia VanVreede (Sr, Little Chute) scored a game-high 21 points as the Blue Devils defeated Northland College, 82-53, at Knedrigan Gymnasium Saturday.

VanVreede scored 12 first half points and Kayla Windt (So, Pence) added 11 of her 14 points in the first stanza as the Blue Devils (4-6) took a 48-25 lead heading into the locker room.

Stout held as much as a 42 point lead midway through the second half as the Blue Devils snapped a four game losing streak.

VanVreede was 8-for-11 from the floor and a perfect 5-for-5 from the line. Windt connected on 5-of-12 from the floor, but hit 4-of-8 3-point shots. Kimmy Keehr (So, Spring Valley) also scored in double digits, adding 11 points. Stout collected seven steals, with Windt getting three and Keehr two. The Blue Devils forced Northland into 24 turnovers.

The Lumberjills (4-3) were led by Lulu Seelye with 12 points. Sam Stanfield and Laura Fisher each added 10 points.

Stout will be at the Wartburg College Holiday Tournament, Dec. 29-30.
