MENOMONIE (November 23, 2010) -
Tricia VanVreede (Sr, Little Chute) scored a career high 23 points to go along with 11 rebounds as Stout defeated Northwestern College, 72-49, Tuesday night at Johnson Fieldhouse.
VanVreede led all players in points and rebounds on her way to her second double double in four games this season.
Kayla Windt (So, Pence) added 15 points, a career high for her as well, as she connected on all six of her shot attempts, three of which were from downtown.
Stout (2-2) jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never tied or trailed the Eagles (1-3) the rest of the game. After taking an 11 point lead on a Windt three pointer, Northwestern cut into the lead with a 10-2 run, getting their deficit to just three points. Stout answered with six straight points and built their lead to 12 points by halftime.
The Blue Devils, still leading by 12 with six minutes to play, finally put the game away with a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to take a 65-43 lead with just four minutes to go. VanVreede and Windt combined for eight of the 10 points.
Katie DeWitt added 22 points and five rebounds for the Eagles, leading her team in both categories.
The Blue Devils will stay at home this weekend for the UW-Stout Turkey Shootout. Stout's first game is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27.
