UW-Whitewater 75, UW-Stout 69
WHITEWATER, Wis. (January 30, 2010) - Julia Hirssig (Sr, Rochester, Minn.) scored the opening basket on the opening possession for the Blue Devils.  The Warhawks  take the lead and hold on the rest of the way posting a 75-69 victory over the Blue Devils.
The Warhawks (14-5, 7-3 WIAC) responded with an 8-0 run to take an early 8-2 lead at the 17:12 mark in the first half. The Blue Devils (11-9, 6-5 WIAC) would only get as close as three points the rest of the game. The Warhawks would steadliy increase their lead throughout the first half thanks to a huge first half for Nicole Bundy, Bundy scored 18 points, shooting 6-8 from the field and hitting three three-pointers.
Courtney Kumerow, who pitched in with 10 first half points for Whitewater, made a layup to give the Warhawks their largest lead of the game at 13 points, 36-23 with 3:56 left in the first half.  The Blue Devils would cut to lead to nine with 1:34 left of a 
Danielle Dewitt (Sr, Green Bay) jumper.  The Warhawks quickly responded and ended the first half on a 4-1 run to take an 11 point lead into halftime, 40-29.
The Blue Devils made a run at the Warhawks early in the second half. With 13:02 left the Blue Devils cut the lead to four, 47-43, after a 
Kim Stokke (Sr, Menomonie) layup. Over the next nine minutes of the game, the Warhawks would slowly increase their lead up to 11, 65-54 with three pointer by Kelsey Hendrickson with just 4:36 left in the game.
The Blue Devils cut into the Warhawk lead in the last four minutes but not enough. The Blue Devils would not get closer than five points as the Warhawks held on for the crucial conference win.
Stokke, Hirssig, and DeWitt led the Blue Devils with 18, 16, and 11 points respectively.  Hirssig also pulled down a game high 13 rebounds. 
The Warhawks were paced by Nicole Bundy's 26 points and three others posted 13 points each, Kelsey Hendrickson, Chantel Burg, and Cortney Kumerow.
The Blue Devils will finish up a tough two game road trip at conference leading UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
