MENOMONIE (January 23, 2010) - UW-Stout trailed early, pushed their way into a lead late in the first half and never trailed as they went on to down first place UW-River Falls, 80-67, Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils (11-7, 6-3) trailed by as much as seven points in the first half and River Falls answered every Stout basket for the first 10 minutes of the game. Stout took the lead for good, 23-22, with 8:48 remaining in the first half on a layup by Julia Hirssig (Sr, Rochester, Minn), then did enough to fend off the Falcons throughout the rest of the game.

River Falls (14-3, 6-3) pulled even with Stout twice in the opening minutes of the second half, but Kim Stokke (Sr, Menomonie), who would score 14 points in the second half and finish with a game- and career-high 22 points, nailed two free throws and the game never got any closer.

Stokke was 7-for-14 from the floor, connected on 8-of-10 free throws - all the charity shots coming in the second half - and yanked down eight rebounds.

Hirssig collected her eighth double-double of the season with 20 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. Danielle DeWitt (Sr, Green Bay) tossed in a career-high 14 points, nine in the second half. Stout tallied six blocked shots on the afternoon, three coming from Megan Maslowski (Sr, Marshfield).

Maranda Dohrn led the Falcons with 16 points and eight rebounds. Tiffany Gregorich finished with 12 points and seven assists.

Stout will host UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m., then will be at UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Jan. 30.
