EAU CLAIRE (September 5, 2009) - UW-Stout used a balance attack in both matches to run their overall record 5-1, taking both matches at the UW-Eau Claire Labor Day tournament Saturday.
The Blue Devils defeated St. Scholastica in four sets, 25-15, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, in the morning contest, then came back with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-15, win over NAIA member Judson University.
Kendra Pagel (Sr, Wausau) and
Kate Mikutowski (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) each tallied 14 kills in the win over St. Scholastica.
Hope Weilage (Fr, Marshall, Minn) finished the match with 10 kills.
Kim Labat (Jr, Marshall, Minn) had 24 assists, while
Chelsea Culver (Fr, Pulaski) contributed 20 assists.
Alicia Mizer (Sr, Barron) prowled the floor for 25 digs.
Over Judson (1-5), Mikutowski and
Steph Nichols (Jr, Greendale) each collected nine kills. Defensively at the net, the Blue Devils kept Judson by allowing the team a negative hitting percentage.
Mizer and Mikutowski were named to the all-tournament team.
Stout will be at St. Catherine, Wednesday, Sept. 9, then come home to host the UW-Stout Tournament, Sept. 11-12 at Johnson Fieldhouse.
