MENOMONIE (April 10, 2009) - There wasn't much good for UW-Stout on Friday as the Blue Devils were defeated by UW-Oshkosh in both games, 21-2, 20-10, with both games ending early.
After getting shutdown in the first game in seven innings, the Blue Devils had a better show in the second game before falling in eight innings.
Oshkosh took a 2-0 lead in the nightcap, but Stout tied the score when Ryan Gilbertson (Jr, River Falls) knotted the score with a two-run home run to right field.
But the Titans bounced back for a five inning second inning. Stout pulled to with 7-6 with four runs in the third inning as Matt Tschida (Sr, Inver Grove Heights, Minn) hit a three run home run and Stout added a run on an error.
But Oshkosh (13-9, 5-1) took control with a seven run fourth inning.
Gilbertson hit two home runs for Stout in the second game, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.
On the day, the Titans' Blake Berger was a combined 7-for-10 with 15 runs batted in and nine runs scored. Berger had two home runs in game one, where he drove in seven runs, and one home run in game two, where he drove in eight runs.
In the opener, Oshkosh put 11 runs on the board in the first inning before Stout got up to bat. Justin Jirschele had a two run single in his second at-bat of the stanza and Blake Berger delivered a three-run home run to inflict much of the damage.
Stout did answer back with two runs in the bottom of the inning as Jerrel Enerson-Matthews drove in two runs on a single to right field.
The Titans scored four runs in both the third and fourth innings and added two more runs in the fifth.
Berger finished the game going 3-for-5 with seven RBI and two home runs. Derek Hiroskey was 2-for-4 with five RBI and a home run.
Kyle Kannenberg went the distance for the Titans, striking out five and surrendering no walks. Stout used five pitchers.
Stout will be at UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, April 15.

MENOMONIE (April 9, 2009) - Matt Doornink (Sr, Cottage Grove, Minn) recorded 13 strikeouts and pitched into the ninth inning as UW-Stout defeated 22nd ranked UW-Oshkosh, 7-4, in the first game Thursday at Nelson Field. The Titans came back to win game two, 9-3.
Doornink struck out the side in the second inning and faced the minimum in three innings. He gave up a single run in the fifth inning on Justin Jirschle's single. Doornink gave up three more runs in the top of the ninth before Dave Oestreich (So, Chippewa Falls) closed out the game.
Doornink scattered seven hits and surrendered eight walks. Oshkosh stranded three runners in the first inning and two runners in the third, fifth and seventh innings.
Stout took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a fielder's choice by Brandon O'Connell (So, Elk Mound) and a right field single by Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (Jr, Anoka, Minn).
After Oshkosh scored in the fifth to make it 2-1, Stout answered back when O'Connell brought in two runs on his single to right-centerfield.

Brian Giebel (So, River Falls) opened the inning with a solo home run.
Andy Lorenzen (Sr, Menomonie) added a two-run shot to score O'Connell, who reached on a single to centerfield.
In game two, Oshkosh scored three runs in the sixth inning to break up a close game and jump out to a 7-3 lead.
The Titans took advantage of two Stout errors to score two runs in the second inning. Stout used an Oshkosh error to cut the score in half in the bottom part of the inning. The Titans used a Stout throwing error to get a runner to third base and a sacrifice fly by Kyle Kanneberg plated the run.
Stout tied the score in the third when Ryan Gilbertson (Jr, River Falls) doubled and Giebel reached on a left field single. O'Connell brought the pair home with a triple.
The Titans took the lead back on a Kannenberg home run in the fifth inning, then broke out with the three-run sixth. Brock Wetenkamp hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to end the scoring.
Giebel was 3-for-3 in the first game and 4-for-7 on the day. O'Connell was 4-for-8 on the afternoon with five RBI.
The two teams will square off again, Friday, April 10, at noon.
