MENOMONIE  (February 24, 2009) - UW-Stout had  four starters in double digit scoring and another knocking on the door as the  Blue Devils defeated UW-La Crosse, 80-72, Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the  WIAC tournament at Johnson Fieldhouse. 
The fourth seeded Blue Devils (16-10) will travel to top seeded UW-Stevens  Point, Thursday, Feb. 26 to meet the Pointers at 8 p.m.
Charlee Edwards (Sr, Danbury), playing her final game at Johnson Fieldhouse, led  all scorers with 18 points, nine in each half, and pulled down nine rebounds. Julia Hirssig (Jr, Rochester, Minn) scored 16 points, 14 in the second half.  Lindsey Gerber (Sr, Exeland) also scored 16, draining five 3-pointers, three in  the first half as Stout took a 36-33 halftime lead. Kim Stokke (Jr, Menomonie) finished with 14 points.
Stout stretched the lead to as much as 14 points, 61-47, midway through the  second period, but La Crosse (17-9) cut the lead to as little as four points,  74-70, with 50 seconds left to play. The Blue Devils made six free throws down  the stretch.
Melissa Lang led the Eagles with 21 points off the bench, scoring 17 in the  second half by hitting five second half 3-pointers. Mackenzie Hunter, the  league's leading scorer, tallied 16 points, but only four in the second half.  Lindsay Wahl contributed 15 points. Dana Churchill pulled down 11 rebounds.
Megan Maslowski (Jr, Marshfield), Stout's fifth starter, had nine points and  Hirssig collected her 13 double-double of the season with 14 rebounds.
Stout shot a very consistent 46.8 percent (29-62) from the floor and shot  46.7 percent in the first half and warmed up to 46.9 percent in the second half.  La Crosse shot 43.5 percent (27-62) for the game.
